The really won my support when they busted up the Tennessee Mafia. Those DOT guys in Tennessee were so confident, they would show up in uniform at trucking companies, requesting re-election campaign funds for their boss. They did this year round, never ending. The left over campaign funds, after the election, were legally transferred to the politicians personal account for his personal use. That's why he had his hoodlums soliciting funds year round. At the Tennessee scale houses, those guys always knew which companies contributed and which ones didn't; and the ones that didn't contribute paid a heavy expensive price on fines for phoney inspections of their trucks.

I did not realize that EOBR's the HOS rules OOS criteria the pilot program, and longer heavier trucks doesn't not effect all drivers. Forgot those only apply to company drivers us owner operators are above the law.

Please if you don't like OOIDA that's perfectly fine, if you don't agree with what they do or their name that's fine. But don't sit there and say they are only for owner operators. They are defending all of us. Owner operators and company drivers.

There are those that don't like OOIDA and others that do. I'm a member, I don't agree with everything but as far as I'm concerned the membership fee is worth the magazine alone. Not to mention all the discounts that have more than paid for that membership. If somebody don't like ooida fine they can always go join the anti trucking association (ATA) I'm sure they'd love another brainwashed person that actually thinks they're trying to help us. Aside from ooida teamsters is the only other organization that will help truck drivers. And I don't know enough about teamsters to say one way or the other what they do or don't do for us.

 

Not to say that joining OOIDA is a bad idea but you can get a subscription to Landline for free without joining OOIDA so it is hard to use that as a reason for joining.

Been a member for 9 years as a company driver. Love the magazine. They update their FB with relevant info all the time. They fight in the courts for us and translate the legal mumbo-jumbo into laymens terms. The price to join for a year is the price of 2 good dinners. They are the ones fighting for all of us.

 

I am a life member and I am not a O/O I joined them years ago because they are fighting for us in Washington, to all the drivers here that whine about the OOIDA, it's your freedom of speech to do so, but, if you cannot go to Capital Hill yourself and do a better job then the OOIDA then quit your stupid whining, your wasting bandwidth on this forum and my time having to read through it.........

 

I have become an O/O. I will join soon.
I want to be counted as such, an o/o when they go fight a state I drive/work through on daily/weekly/yearly basis.
The magazine is just a perk, the jacket and the hat. I believe we all (o/o) should and I agree with some that the entity may not report their earnings as we all like to see fit, but for me it comes down to that when they go to DC, or a at any higher state court to represent one or all of us, this includes you that have not joined nor will, I want to be a beneficiary of the results that would keep me in business.
we are stronger in numbers and OOIDA is the only organization I know of that represent us in a decent way, even though we'd really like to see some strikes against fuel prices and cheap rates to make these 2 turn around.
As gooberment keeps tighting our pants up by the day, hell is going to have to break lose sooner or later, when that happens I want to be represented by an organization with a history of fights they've joined and have won than a new association that won't have any say in DC.

was a member from '00 to '04, let it lapse, still get the magazine. The final straw for me was when they left us out on a limb here in Colo. when they raised the fines for not chaining. Absolutely no representation from OOIDA, no help at all. Would have been nice for them to be here to help us, especially after the media pointed out that the claims of the ski industry and their lobbyists were wrong.

 

OOIDA INSURANCE; they are NOT an insurance company but a conglomerate of companies. That somehow is a problem for O/O. Some companies I.E. Landstar, Matson America and others would not take their insurance. The reason? when is time to pay they pass the buck to each other.
I am a member, and I do insurance thru them.
Get a lifetime membership for $100 and you get a real cool jacket and other goodies.
Also is the only voice defending our interests in the political arena. Are they perfect ? no, but only game in town.

 

I know how you feel because it is a personal issue with you and I feel that there are a lot of drivers out here that might feel the same, but ya have to understand that the OOIDA has bigger fish in the pond to go after and cannot fight every little battle out here, maybe if they had about 400,000 more members and the finances to do it, they could do that, but I think that they have to choose there battles wisely and do what is good for the industry as a whole, my .02 worth.....
