Well, they do sell permits and such when someone needs one, and it depends on the state as to how big a pita they are. CO and WY are usually just about weight and permits, unless the DOT is working. They will check a logbook ocassionally, but it's normally only when they get a clueless idiot in there they'll ask them for one. The other POE states (UT, OR, NM, AZ) tend to be more like a regular scalehouse, where you better have the ducks lined up. NM used to be a lot like easier to deal with, but they've discovered a nice revenue source in trucks, and it shows!

The Colorado port south of Trinidad is a pain....
But them again, it is a CO/NM port. -
you did exactly what you were supposed to do. if the sign don't say COME IN. you keep on driving. if they wanted to weigh you. they would have had the arrow up for the scale lane.Hammer166 Thanks this.

Except when you get confused by the sign

I guess what the OP (and others) need to remember is that if you get a red light on the PP, it only means you have to enter the scale as if you didn't have a transponder. There aren't any different rules once you're on the ramp, just follow SOP. Think of it like this: Green light means you're getting a pass, red light means you don't.

i think they use the flashing sign for non permit loads to just exit. when there is only one person working. and he has a customer for whatever reason.
i also think they close at midnight now. there's been a few times i've gone through and they weren't open. except for the sheridan poe.
i even went through one that was open. but nobody was home. on the 90 coming out of SD. cop happened to be sitting there and asked if i was lost. LOL.
never been ask for my papers in CO except for permits when hauling a permitted load. usually just roll right on through. -
I got the redlight today with prepass
then the sign said scale closed
I kept rolling then noticed trucks on the scale as I passed
waited for the cops to come but as I am now in KS
and this was in MO guess I am ok
they like to play games of opening and closing scales
