I haven't been on here in awhile, so I thought I'd browse the flatbed forum since that's what I do. Anyway, I couldn't help but notice questions regarding load securement, or general, "how do I do this" questions from folks getting answered by other folks who have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what they're talking about. Please don't do this!

Everyone starts from the beginning and learns along the way. There are more than enough truly experienced flat-bedders on this forum to offer sound advice to those that ask for it. Please don't give lousy advice to these new guys trying to learn the trade if you haven't got a freaking clue what you're talking about! YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!! Knock it off, before someone listens to you and gets hurt.

While I'm venting, let me get this off my chest too.

All of the, "I called his company on him," or, "I called the DOT on him," or, "I'm gonna call the cops, that's not safe!" MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS! Or better yet, get your lazy butt out of the seat, grow a pair, and go talk to the driver about what seems to be concerning you. If he's doing something wrong, he may not realize it and may appreciate you bringing it to him. Or, he may educate YOU on why it's OK.

Thanks, I feel better already....I'll check back in another six months when my blood pressure has returned to normal after reading an enormous amount of lousy advice!

Lots of fiction on this site.

You have to be able to weed through the fiction and the facts. Look around and you figure out who posts facts.

You are so right! It's been awhile since I've been here, but as a general rule, people were posting their questions and getting "qualified" answers. Tonight as I read through, I was blown away by all the fiction, as you say. Unfreakingbelieveable! Not sure if the forum has just filled up with knuckleheads, or I just picked a bad night to browse the threads.

Any of you new guys reading this, please take the advice you get here with a grain of salt. There are some very knowledgeable folks here that can and will be glad to help you.....just beware that there seems to be a large number of know-it-all's who know nothing and are more than happy to give you their version of solid advice.

If i see bad securment, I go over and help the guy first. if he refused my help I will report him because he is unsafe, but i try to educate and give the chance for him to make it right first. That being said, when a guy has 2 broken straps and his load is shifting next to me and he doesn't answer the CB, i have no choice but to call the cops on him. I always try to give them the chance to make it right first though.

2 years a ago, a flatbedder was carrying 2 flatbed on his flatbed. He had them strapped on with only (2) 2inch straps. I called him on the cb and tried to explain it wasn"t enough. He told me to go to HE double hockey sticks and floored it. (driving about 70 in a 45) I called the cops and as they pulled him over both trailers went over when he stopped quick on the shoulder. If i didn't call it in they probably would have fallen on cars around a turn.

My point, its important to report unsafe drivers, but give them the chance to make it right first. Some arn't ##### and just havn't been properly trained. If they are, then report um, you tried to do the right thing.

Its easy when you're a regular on here to figure out who knows what they are talking about and gives good advice and solid facts. It scares me when a new guy asks a question and gets some inaccurate info and runs with it because they don't know any better.

Unfortunately there are regulars here that don't have a clue and just show up to apparently get their post count up and argue.

I was just talking with someone the other day about how members here on TTR who are knowledgeable and experienced and give good advice will get the ban hammer for justifiably calling another user an idiot, but the mods look the other way when inaccurate or unsafe information is repeatedly posted by the same individuals.

I'm always open to advice. First time I went to JD in Waterloo, I asked another driver the best way to secure two big tractors as there wasn't any obvious way to chain them down. Even though he was sweating and tired, he still took time to show me where he always ties them down. He said he never minds answering a question no matter how basic it may be. It's the drivers that don't ask questions then leave without enough securement that bothers him.

a lot of the posters on here are the same ones sitting at the super trucker counter at the truck stop... always ready to snap pics to post on TRR, and always ready to offer advice on subjects they know nothing about, but in the real world lack the balls to say anything.

Problem is, 'might' doesn't always make 'right'. The smart folks tend to keep quiet because the idiots are bigger, stronger, and louder than they are.
