Look into the LTL side. The union companies pay better.

The best advice I can give is forget about the carriers in the truck stop employment periodicals by the fuel entrance. Consider a circle perhaps a hundred miles radius of your home. There are probably several small and medium carriers looking for quality drivers but do not "advertise". Some local, some regional, some perhaps national. The small and medium carriers (<200 trucks) I think are the best to work for if you can get into one of them that is a good for for you.
That said, I always recommend exercise extreme caution when going to work for a REALLY small company with no track history or just trying to fill a seat or 2 and not wanting to run a real "payroll system" ... and maybe their checks will be good, maybe not. For drivers with questionable history these may be a good fit, but for drivers with a reputation and family income and stability to protect, I recommend working for a carrier that is a "real business" top to bottom. -
If you were seeking relationship counseling, instead of a job, where would the problem lie? There is a reason why you can't make money. Is it your being "very safe"? Some drivers think that being safe is to drive only in daylight hours, 250 miles a day, parked by 2 PM. Problem is, their idea of 'very safe' doesn't pay to well. So what prevented you from making money?Dark_Majesty_06 and 379exhd Thank this. -
Maybe the companies he worked for all had too many drivers for far too little freight. I've been there and done that and there is little a quality driver can do to run anywhere near maximum capacity. Many carriers model to work within the framework of the lowest common denominators (least productive drivers) and this puts a strain on the truly productive drivers and they are forced to move on to a carrier who hopefully has quality freight and can keep the current level of trucks running well and don't have to waste time hand-holding.
