So I'm at a stand still with Millis. I applied to the Cartersville terminal, and Alice really seems like she wants to get me accepted. However, I'm having a problem verifying my employment with one of my past employers. They're trying to charge Millis $25 to verify my employment with them. Alice also told me I could use a checkstub that I have from them, however, I don't have anymore. So I'm pretty much stuck... What I want to know is can my previous employer legally charge them $25 to get my records? And has anybody else been in this situation and what did you do??

Was it direct deposit? If so call your bank they can print the deposits that will say company name.... Mill is might accept that.

Are you sure its not Millis trying to charge you?

If you confirm its the previous employer, I'd be knocking down doors trying to figure this out. Give Millis the $25 in mean time, and request copies from Alice and verification of payment. Keep copies of everything, and records of who what when where why you spoke to whom!

If you find it is the previous employer, get legal advice! JMO $15 gets you a small claims case (maybe more or less in your county) you can have them served w/ lawsuit and subpena all your records. <---thats extreme but will keep them from playing games like this in future with your files.

Contact your Department of Labor and ask if a former employer is legally allowed to charge for employment verification. It does not sound kosher to me. You may be able to file a complaint against the former employer for the charge and that former employer may drop the fee to get the formal complaint to go away.

I went through the same ordeal last year when I was going to go with Millis and Alice was handling my file. The temporary service I worked for prior to getting hired on by the company I originally had the assignment with. By this time I was permanently with the company already. Alice told me she would call me back after verifying my employment within the hour. After not hearing from her, I got the response from her that the temp service gave her a toll free number to call that wanted to charge Millis a fee to verify me and she wasn't going to do that. I called the temp service myself and explained what she needed and what I was trying to do and the lady I talked to offered to give Alice her name and she would personally verify for me. I called Alice and explained what I did with the instructions for her to carry out. Shortly later I had an approval letter by email.

Is this fair, heck no. You just got to figure a back way in. I'm sure they will do it by direct deposit to. They just want documentation of dates of employment. Out smart the problem.

Thats the problem I have now. The lady at the employment service told me that if I have a paystub I can get it. However, I dont have one for them, so I'm just going to have to pay the $25 for the verification, and the icing on the cake is I have to wait 3-5 days before it comes back. I'm so anxious to get started!
