I have a question, what flattbedding equipment does Melton supply you with?

What are the anticipated expenses that a "Newbie" flattbedder might incur?

Lastly, what flattbedding tools do you find indispensable?

Thanks in advance to all who reply

You get supplied with chains, straps, tarps, bungees....

A lot of expenses you might get are pretty much voluntary...I bought myself two 4' drop steel tarps, totally unnecessary, TOTALLY worth it. (Both ran me about $380 +tax). I'd have stuff tarped and hittin the road while other drivers are still fighting with their 8 foot drops. You can get the plastic edge protectors. Melton will provide you with cardboard and they work great, you just have to replace them probably every other load. You can get the tarp corner protectors, sit over corners of load to protect tarp from tears....you can use anything to do this, trash laying around a job site, cardboard, etc...i just find it easier to pop a corner tent on then screw with other junk. Like I said, most of this is not necessary. Just makes everything a little neater. And nicer looking.

TMC gives you all of that...you must have chosen the wrong company.

    Noggin,

You have a plethora of information, thanks for sharing. :biggrin_25525:

Here's another question, I'm getting set to buy a pair of work boots. Melton indicated they needed to be safety boots. I have seen both Steel Toe and Composite Toe boots. Both indicate they meet Work Safety Standards. Obviously the Composite Boots are lighter. Would "Composite Toe" boots be acceptable at Melton or do they have to be Steel toe?

    Thanks

Its not melton that requires them, its the shippers and receivers. Some places are strict on boots but they don't really check the toe. Composite should be fine. I wear tennis shoes at most places tho...
