I have a Freightliner Columbia with DD series 60 - 14 L -515 HP. How difficult is to replace the injectors myself? Where is the best place to get remanufactured
and calibrated injectors?
I have some experience with diesel pickups.

it is extremely easy. just need a good set of feeler gauges to set the valves and Jake's with. also will require you to buy the injection height tool. pretty sure it was 80 bucks. but was years ago when I bought mine so it could be more today, or possible my memory is off. i'd suggest getting the injectors straight from Detroit or freightliner. aftermarket won't be much cheaper and will need Detroit to program them after install. oem injectors have the correct parameters already uploaded so they match up to your ecm.
oh and make life easier on yourself, drain some coolant so you can remove that top radiator house, it's a pain getting the valve cover off with it in the way(tho can be done).bigtire Thanks this. -
it is columbia! #5 and #6 injectors are under cab, so some acrobatics required.
I'd change sleeves, so yoy need a tool for sleeves, as I remember on late series 60 they are threaded and easy to change, not like on Volvo ore 12.7bigtire Thanks this. -
Are you certified to do this i believe dot regs got you paying a mechanic to do almost any major repairs

it's really not that bad. the can is cut back around the engine, gives plenty of room.
what sleeves are you referring to? do you mean the injector cups? You get to them from the bottom of the head, not the top.
op, make sure you buy new orings for the injectors if they don't come with them. also buy a tube of oring grease so you don't risk tearing one while pushing the new injector down. -
When I had my Volvo done they found it easier to unbolt the front cab mount and jack the front up a little.
They had to remove that front piece of side fairing/fender extension, but still found it the easiest way to get the valve cover off. They did the drivers side, I don't know if it makes a difference. -
Engine oil works so does Vaseline, probably cheaper too.
