Well this was my first trip across 84 and up into the Meridian area. Missed the small truck stop south of town and was heavy and needed to scale before I hit the posted scales east of Meridian.
Checked my guide and noticed the pilot with medium parking and the TA with XL parking. I should have known better and just went to the second on the road the TA.
So I actually put a shout out on the cb a few miles before the pilot with no response so i figured just go to the pilot, get scaled and out.
LOL it's like a toilet bowl, sucks you into the whirlpool and then you have to plunge yourself out of it.
So, i timed it, 28 mins just to get on the scale then about 10 more to go around the block and nose in. Then another 30 mins to get the tandems moved and scale out. 1hr.2mins to get scaled...seriously.
The store and property itself is nice and clean but was built far to small to handle their traffic.
Live and learn, I even had help via the cb from some of the other drivers in the whirlpool waiting for fuel considering I was just going to use the scale.
No more Pilot Meridian, it will be TA next time.
I don't think that the area this pilot is built in is over developed or lacking of land, seems to me that a large TS on a major xpressway should build the appropriate sized facility to accommodate our large trucks.
I also don't think this was just because I happened to go at a rare busy time. Just a rant.

i once made the mistake of stopping there to pee and get a cup of coffee. Took approx. 45 minutes, so I feel your pain

Thats the one on the south side of the freeway, with the shop on the south side and at night, alot of trucks just parking anywhere right?
-
It's on the southside of the freeway, easy to get to but once you are there you get stuck. I was there at about 1300 hrs on a thursday. There were plenty of parking spots but not easy to access. The issue here is that there is insufficient space to get to and to get away from the fuel island considering the traffic going to it. basically the line for the fuel island ties up every other access into or out of the truckstop. It truly was a mess and not the fault of the drivers, they were all doing the best they could with the space they had to deal with.

I only stop there for 10 hour breaks, and only if it is impossible to avoid
place was just as busy at the pumps when I left at 2am last time as when I got there....what a zoo lol -
There is something in the way some carriers implement and respond fuel price postings and the "economizer" system (or whatever they call it) A truckstop can post a price 1 cent lower one day, then next thing you know, every company truck that passes that can take on 60 gallons of fuel that passes through practically will fuel there, jamming the fuel approach for most of a 24 hour period. Then a lot depends on it's proximity to a large dustribution hubs and what day and time of the week it is.
... that said, some of the truckstops are chronically jammed 24/7 for whatever reason. The new 30 minute break is not helping things either during mid-day periods. Best thing a driver can do is talk to their supervisors when they get to a terminal and voice your concerns about particular stops they routinely direct you to that ARE CHRONICALLY a pain in the butt to get in and out of. They can easily shift a stop down in priority, allowing you to fuel elsewhere. I know the OP wasn't trying to fuel, but it is the fuelers who are causing the problems. Of course the truckstop says "what problem? we're selling more fuel then we have a right to, so what should we be concerned about?"
Time is money when you're constantly fighting a clock from several angles as a trucker, and some times carriers need to be aware that that 4 cents/gal ($4.00 perhaps?) they saved cost you 20 extra minutes over and above the norm and you're not stopping there anymore, period. -
Isn't this the Pilot right past another Indy with a trailer brake knob as a sign? To get to the Pilot you have to make a hard right and then kinda loop around to the entrance on your left? If so then I agree, one of the worst designed places ever. You know normally I would say it's hopeless but they just recently changed the lot a little at the Flying J at exit 7 on 30 in Arkansas and that to me was one of the worst. So they can adjust their lots, they just need proper motivation.

Yes Ethos....thats the one. Prolly would have done better going to the independent on the northside or TA.
And for STexan, not only does it tie us up, it also ties up the company truck. Seems to me that the company makes more when that thing is moving not sitting.
I actually sent a freeform message to FM explaining the TS, not that I had too. I was just a little bent having to spend so much time to get a scale run. When I was inside getting my paperwork I mentioned it nicely to the manager that their facility was the worse and that I just spent over an hour getting run thru their scale twice, she sort of stood there and chuckled....I told her that I was serious and that over an hour to run on the scale is a joke and that I would not be coming back. LOL. I did get my 30min break in....48Packard Thanks this. -
When I stop in that area I usually park at that tiny fuel stop at the state line where 80/11 cross the 20. Nice and quiet.

One time at that Pilot I was going to smoke and so I went to the drivers seat and opened my curtains. I saw this guy standing at my door messing with the door lock. I rolled down my window and asked him what he wanted and he jumped about five feet back and started stammering, "oh this isn't my truck". Turned out he was another Schneider bulk driver and he was parked two down from me. Was pretty funny.
