Ok. the story goes like this currently a driving student about to graduate next week from driving school. i'll have my CLass A with all endorsements. Now, while in school i was staying in touch with a lot of companies. Only problem now is that I CANT DECIDE WHO TO SIGN WITH. My options are Mav, Stevens Transport, Covenant Transport, Melton. I was also looking into Schneider for their tanker division. I want to really go OTR but if i can find other tanker companies that hire right from school, i might go apply with them too. If possible can someone help out with the pros and cons of these companies???

Pretty sure Stevens and covenant both have a bad rep, but you can do worse. Maverick is fine, Melton will likely be better. Melton is one of the best national carriers to get in with. Just make sure you can handle flatbedding. I had to strap a light load down in my CDL school a few weeks ago. Not saying I wouldn't do flatbedding, but I definitely see it being a pain in the ###.

Figure out what u want to haul first: dry vans, tankers, or refers then find the company that u like the most. U will know that u found the right company when u come across them.

well for me, my order of preference is dry van, tanker, flat bed with refers as a if all else fails lol

Check into Intermodal too, may give you good hometime if that's important to you.

Load securement is half the fun. Once you get used to straps and chains, you'd probably change your mind about flatbedding.Chase05 Thanks this.

Well It really depends on where you are from, I'm seeing more and more of you guys not stating where you are from, I'm not sure why that is such a big deal but I guess it is, I wouldn't give the forum my SS number but if they ask for a phone number I probably would give it that, I have been dry van all my years, looking at going with a reefer gig but that is my deal, I'm not sure where you are from so I can't tell you where to go. There are advantages to certain types of work depending on what part of the country you are in!

Good companies that hire new grads:
Melton Truck Lines (best healthcare for driver & family)
Maverick
Schneider tanker
Trimac
Superior-Carriers
SVTN
Millis (only dry van company I recommend based on what's posted)
Holland Enterprises (reefer)
Howard Transportation
If you live in the Northwest add these:
trans-system (3 companies)Last edited: Sep 16, 2013
