If you unlock the door to OE 955, you have a good deal.

International Union of Operating Engineers Local 955 in Alberta.

To get in there as a bus driver is surprising, but it does open up doors for sure.

Hello, Keyano College Registrar? My name is Rainyday. I am from a place near Winnipeg, home of...uh, er...Neil Young.

How do you like me now?:biggrin_25521:

Lol.. yes he's not making too many friends.. old hippy - anyways I was supposed to have my admissions interview with Keyano on Oct 8th, but this job popped up and its firm, so I called them to cancel (also didn't have the 6k spare + no income for a month + possibly not a job after) and she told me that it was just the interview, and should I pass it I probably wouldn't start the course until JUNE 2014.. its filled up that much..

Yet there is anecdotal evidence for people who just get hired on as a labourer and put into a unit within a couple months if they show some skill and aptitude.

So yes. I thought getting in on a crew bus to one of the nicest, newest camps out there would be good, after 3 months I'm in the union which will open up a lot of doors (currently 291 jobs available on their site) and its supposedly secure work for a minimum of 2 years.

    can't go wrong with that.
I kind of screwed my days off though, my 15 day hitch ends tomorrow (wednesday) and my 14 day hitch at the new job begins friday

Thats exactly what I'm trying to do.. get in on the ground floor with something easy and decent, put myself out there - show that I have a class 1 and nearly 2 years of offroad and industrial experience, show that I can operate equipment, that I have an armload of valid Patch tickets (all thanks to Sanjel really) and go from there.. I see 18 year old kids up there making stupid money and they can barely tie their own shoes.
