I picked up a raido active hazmat load today and the run was 1000 miles long Michigan to Massachusetts. While on the way I was cussed several times on the CB at least a dozen times and flipped off three times for running the speed limit in construction zones. I slso want to mention that due to points trouble my employer has let it be known that a speeding ticket in a construction zone will get you suspended for 12 months.
Anyway near the end of my driving time I came upon the worst Rig accident I have ever seen.
Dry van driver hit a dump bed trailer in the rear in a one lane construction zone.Out of respect for the family I will not post the video of the c5rash.
Lets just say this, the king pin of the dry van was against the dump gate of the trailer that was hit from behind. The top shell of the sleeper was sheared off and sitting on top of the dump trailer. All I saw was a mirror andpart of a tire. The whole tractor was compressed into about three feet with the frame under the dump bed.
DONT FLIP ME OFF FOR DOING THE SPEED LIMIT IN A WORK ZONE!!!
Fatality accident on I 80 west bound at the 90 mile stick.

Of course you are right. Same thing happens to the rest of us that obey the rules in construction zones. I had one driver really flip out in Knoxville in a 35 mph construction zone because I refused to drive faster. He said, "I won't be able to make my truck payment driving this slow."
-
I wonder if that was him that I passed on I 80 at the 90 mile stick.

So many accidents that could have been avoided if just the person decided to slow down some, what is 10-20 min difference going to mean if you're dead. The bad thing is so many secondary accidents occur when things like this happen.
Prayers for the family of the man killed and the driver of the dump truck. -
Watched the local news video from the site and it said the dump was only going between 5-10 mph, WHY!?!? So maybe it wasn't the dead drivers fault, investigation to follow.....

I have no problem calling in on a company that is speeding in a construction zone. I have had friends and family who have been in road construction, and have way to many close calls from speeding vehicles. If your speeding thru a construction zone, then you should of left 30 minutes sooner.
-
I hope you are calling in with your hands free device LOL
-
Na, I m using both hands lol
-
Mayb he is part of the construction crew or there was traffic in front of him. Anyway, the ruling will be against the van driver; always is when you rear end another vehicle.
-
Maybe the dump pulled out into traffic and the van was going too fast to keep from hitting him. I spent over a decade running the Ohio Pike and have seen all kinds of stupidity like that, especially in Ohio's never ending construction zones. The dumps that run on the road construction crews seem to have the me first attitude and do not care who they pull out in front of, but I've also seen plenty of me first big trucks hauling ##### through the work zones too. I used to be one that would get yelled at for doing the speed limit too

Edited to add:
The story from the local news states that traffic slowed to a near stop but no mention of why it slowed so dramatically. Near the end of the story the reporter says speed apparently was not a factor???? Seriously? Obviously speed was THE factor as the truck that started hitting folks was going too fast too keep from hitting folks.
