I had a situation in late August when I lost all satellite signal for almost two hours. Later I read this article:

    http://fox2now.com/2013/08/21/solar-flare-could-cause-interference-and-power-surges/

If you completely lose signal, then solar flares can be the culprit. Just when I thought that reading weather maps was enough... :D

A few months ago I had persistent problems with the GPS being frozen, the icon and map didn't move for almost an hour as I was approaching my customer location. I ended up calling for directions. After delivery I contacted my DM who asked me to call QC support. The QC guy had me try a "warm boot" (cntrl-alt-del) and that didn't fix the problem. He then had me remove the power cable from the QC box under the bunk for about 20 seconds and reconnect it. That solved the problem.

Ctrl-Alt-Del no longer works on my Q/C, and it is too much trouble to contort into a position to unplug the power cable in my truck. On my 2012 Volvo I simply turn off all the electric to the truck by turning the switch under the drivers door. It accomplishes the same thing except it reboots the entire truck.

I had an issue with my 4-way flashers and turn signals not functioning after a rest stop. The red triangle on the dash board was flickering. I thought it might be a fuse, got on the horn with On Road, and while I'm waiting for them to help me figure out which fuse I needed to look for (the fuse panel on the '12 Cascadia didn't give me any clues) I decided for the "truck reboot". Worked like a charm and fixed the problem.

Perhaps it's like modern laptops, you can keep the electrical system on for quite a while, but it does need to be turned off every now and then to keep all the "1's" and "0's" functioning properly.

That's exactly what is happening. The new trucks are computer controlled far more than most realize. Those of you with a battery selector switch need to reboot your truck weekly whether or not you are having problems. When you start your truck turn the key on and wait for all the idiot lights to go off before you crank. You wouldn't start your computer in safe mode every time you use it. If you don't wait for the ECM start up sequence you are in safe mode better known as castrated computer.

We forget that the GPS system was developed strictly for US military use and eventually was made available to the rest of us. The problems started a week or so ago. The system was probably intentionally degraded a few days before the anniversary of 11Sep to prevent its use by those who may have wanted to do us harm.

    inkeper Thanks this.
