Garner out of Findlay Ohio. As stated earlier... Depending on freight and how good the driver is would determine their average miles. The way I drive, I would expect to average 400 to 500 perday on the low side. You share a truck with someone who lives near you. Breakdown is paid after the first hour. And insurance is BC/BS. You are right that the company makes money because the truck doesn't sit for your hometime. Less ttrucks to license, insure and maintain so they can pay the drivers more CPM. Any other doubts?

So all newbies have to stay out weeks at a time unless they want to bring home $250 - $300 a week. Not from what I've seen. Some weeks may be like that but there are regional companies that pay more than that I'm sure of it. I wouldn't stay out for months at a time for any company. Some drivers seem to like that and good for them but not everyone's the same. So what company did you start at that kept you out for weeks at a time? Just because that's the way you did it doesn't mean that's what everyone else needs to do. I make a poor sheep and I'm not a good mushroom either.
The company this post is about is Garner. From what I've seen they appear to be a decent company and one I'm looking at if I do drive. Where I live at may not work for this program but weekends at home may work too. They'll be one of my first 5 companies I apply to if and when that time comes.

Thanks for the info GDT and thanks for posting.

Sadly, since I am a trainer... I cannot do the 4 on/ 4 off deal myself. It would take too long to get the ladies through training and right now, training is more important to me. However, I just had a lady complete training and she will go solo on Monday! She will be doing the 4 on/4 off so I will get to hear how it is going for someone straight out of school! I will post as I hear things from her. We continue to mentor our trainees by phone even after they leave our truck so I know I will be hearing from her a lot. I will post later!

Sounds like a sweet deal. I drive Hazmat class B truck with lots of physical labor and make 21.00 per hour which comes to 840.00 per wk gross. Thats less then the above figures of 0.40 x 550 =220 x 4 =880 gross a week. I figure where I work I am getting on average 8 days off a month while at Garner it would be a minimum of 12 days off a month for more pay. Yes I do come home every night now but because physical labor and mental stress and driving 2 hour round trip to and from work by the time I get home, prepare my lunch for the next day, make dinner, do chores and read a little while its time to go to bed since the alarm goes off at 4 am.

I have been thinking of going tanker. now I might go to Garner after I get Class A upgrade.
Time to do dinner and chores. Good night.

    P.S. Great thread. Thanks

Go to Garner's website unless you're looking at moving though they're a smaller Midwest regional carrier based in Ohio. According to their website they stick within about 5oo miles of their HQ.

    Hi Emma,
Im 5wks from finishing cdl school and they are having us apply to many carriers.
Ive read several of your threads about Garner

Im in the Youngstown Ohio area. Would I fall into their hiring area?

I drove a non-cdl 1500 gallon tank truck for 18mos but this is a new beginning for me. I'll have all endorsements including hazmat.

    Thanks for your time
    Tim
