Hey 379 I wish I had the answer man... I'm asking the same thing...I'm not personally saying I should be given every opportunity, in fact I'm to the point I think I need some more training than I originally thought I would need. I am more than willing to do what I have to....Problem is no one will give me any kind of chance.....I really have no idea where to go from my point of view....I appreciate all you guys are helping me with but #### man...I'm not the only one saying give so...and...so at least a little drive time....Thanks fellas...

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

hey brickman, i see where you posted my posting and another in the as to say, what I am looking for can be found at the other, but with not much of a flat bed experience, i wont be turned loose that quick. i do however would like your opinion on who you think the top 5 big companies out there would be worth going to even if it is only for say 6 months to get back into things and then jump to a better one.
there is a company that i would love to go to , but they said i have to have 6 months recent and i really never heard anything bad about them even when i was living in iowa and driving for a owner operator then and that company was Barr-nunn.
I never really have never heard much being said about them, or TMC, or the old MS Carriers, but that was before they were bought out. and that was years ago that I heard that about MS> -
I was out of a truck for about six years finishing my teenage son. I missed the road and went looking for a truck to drive. My credentials were current and perfect. I had not really been away from trucks, but had not been actively driving OTR.
Even J.B. Hunt wouldn't hire me without some type of school certification and retraining. No way!
I kept looking and finally found an outfit with looser hiring standards and got back in the seat. The job wasn't perfect, but, it got me current and now I work where I want to work.
Good credentials and a lot of experience will usually trump good credentials and current experience unless you're dealing with idiots. -
Hey NoTarps, not to be an ### but, what studies? You have links or somewhere I can look...Not a big fan of the line "studies have shown"...Where? Went thru school and was never allowed to make such a broad statement. Again, not to be an ### ,but I'd like to see the studies....

That is what I was told when I was looking to go back in a truck. Every company I applied to told me the same thing when I asked about my prior exp. I was not going to to take a refresher course no matter what.

Hey 2XR,
what loser company was that. I am facing retraining or school again and I said noway. I had a friend of mine who owns his truck, give me a test drive to see if i still have the skills to do the job, i did pretty well, i hit a few gears but never have driven his make of truck before, so that was a plus on my side, and besides, who doesn't hit any gears no matter how long they been driving.
you said you are back in the seat, did you have to get with a trainer, if you can , you can even send me a private message about who you went to.

don't forget they would have to pay you more than the newbie with no exp. seeya
