Their website says one year of recent experience for fuel hauling. Can any of you guys that work for them confirm off it would be realistic to expect to get hired with a year experience? I am working on my first year working local and I plan to apply in my market when I qualify, just trying to get an idea of what to expect as I really have no idea how competitive these jobs are when it comes to experience. I currently haul agriculture chemicals and fertilizer but would jump at the opportunity to get in to fuel hauling. Basically, I am trying to keep from doing the otr deal just to get the experience for a local job. I don't have anything against otr, but I prefer to stay local.

 

I don't work for them, so can't give you information for their company, but I can tell you to go ahead and apply. If you want to work for them, try to find out who the terminal manager is, and give him a call. Try to go around any hr, and talk to the man in charge. I found out where the terminal was for the company I now work for, took the number off the fence, and called in and spoke to the terminal manager, and the rest is history. So doesn't hurt to try!

 

Its more like as many as THEY want. But if you let them know that you are hungry for hours they will be more likely to think of you when deciding who to give that extra load to that came in at the last minute. Hours vary from terminal to terminal so I really can't tell you what to expect. When you interview, ask the TM to show you what the drivers have been making.

 

Definitely do not let this deter you from applying. This was my very first tanker job. They trained me. Since I have been here, we have hired 10 drivers at my terminal, and none of them had any prior gas hauling experience. Only a couple of them had even driven a tanker.

 

I definitely will give it a shot when I get my year of experience in. I just pull bulk fertilizer trailers and a van every now and then. It will be January before I can do that though.

 

Worked for them in the SA/Austin area for 5 mths. It was an OK job, nothing special. I was hauling fuel for them they're safety obsessed, so you're lucky if you get 3 loads a shift. Pay by the hour. Because of my experience I was on in excess of $22 hr, but that's not the top rate. The worst part was dispatch. Terribly organized and operated from Louisiana, so they had no local knowledge. Plenty of overtime but I got bored with the job and moved on. They tend to micro manage you a bit which I didn't appreciate. But by and large it's a decent co to work for. Depends what you are looking for. Benefits are excellent too.
