To the OP: If you're being honest about what happened, know this..... 5 drivers can pretrip a rig and find 5 different things wrong with it. That's just the way it is. He was definitely using that as a way to terminate your employment with him for whatever reason. It was a chicken $%#@ way of going about it, as he totally screwed you for employment now.
Keep applying, you WILL get on somewhere, although you probably wont like it, you really need to stick it out and do your best to get a good job referral for a year minimum. Then you can move on to something better. Sorry this happened to you, that stinks! Good luck!Tonythetruckerdude and MZdanowicz Thank this. -
Hey Dude- Well said. I knew of a driver that was let go for doing a good job at an oil co. Put 10 years in, never complained about anything, 3 loads heavy oil a day. Shop steward told him to "milk two loads" other drivers are complaining; putting pressure on them; getting to much over time. The "brass" never cared, they loved him. You know what a co of men can do to an person. He finally left. But, this ends good. The "top brass" found out and fired the dispatcher, and yard boss. After, the shop steward did not have a "life". Co spies followed him everywhere and finally got him Xmas shopping on co time. This was in 1991. The driver that left went OTR in 1992. They begged him to return, but never did. And this was a UNION SHOP.Last edited: Sep 25, 2013
Chinatown Thanks this. -
If this boss is so chicken that he has to use a trick like this to get rid of you, he's no good to work for. Who fires people over one missed weld?
Are there any other companies hiring drivers in your town? I second Chinatown on the indeed.com website. I have found a lot of good leads there. I would also file with the Labor Board while pumping applications out. There may be some other unethical stuff they're doing that could be uncovered. Meanwhile, you're off on a better gig. -
My money is on a setup. He already knew the weld was cracked. Good rid of jobs like that. Stay calm there good outfits out there. If a new job asks about it tell them. The guy Prolly say WTH.
MZdanowicz Thanks this. -
Thanks for all the insight everyone. It was a 26' straight truck that I was driving, I dont know where someone got School Bus from?!?! haha. Anyways, I agree that he was probably just trying to find a reason to fire me. I really was a good employee while I was there. I was never late, always completed deliveries/P/U's on time and did everything he asked me to do without bitc*ing and moaning like a lot of the guys there did. Ill be the first to say that I am FAR FAR FAR from perfect and I would never claim to be, but in my short time at that company(2 months), I really didnt do anything wrong. I think thats why it bothers me so much, because I busted my ### everyday to make sure that I did everything by the book to make sure that I kept my job. Now I decide to try to go OTR and USX, Werner and Maverick have all denied my applications due to being fired. I called JB Hunt and they didnt want to talk to me once I told them about it. I just applied to Swift today, so Ill wait to see what happens there. Another question I have is, will me being fired for that reason show up on my DAC? Will it show "fired for safety", or just "Fired", or nothing at all. Im just not exactly sure how the DAC reports work.
MZdanowicz Thanks this. -
If your past employer does not use DAC, it will not show up on your DAC record.....

First to correct something from what I'm told, that all states are at will employment states, you are not covered under any protections by the state for termination unless there are specific issues,like sexual harassment involved.
HOWEVER the questions that I have is if you missed this item;
1 - when he came out were you in the truck ready to go or were you still doing the DVIR and not yet signed off on it?
2 - and if you were just completing the DVIR but not in the truck ready to move it when he came out, did you ask him if you would have found it, would he have let you go on the road or would he given you another truck? -
I would of punched him right square in the jaw..
At least i would feel good knowing i actually did something ''wrong'' before he canned me...Not doing a pre trip.????...Seriously..????...The sissifacation of America Continues..That alone deserves a swift kick in da balls...
It is obvious this guy is a new breed twink in need of an old fashioned beating....truckon, 72express, MZdanowicz and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yea, he came out and inspected the truck right after I signed off on the Pretrip. His office window looks over the yard, so I think he was watching me and waiting to see that I was done before he ###*ed with me. A week prior my wife gave birth to our daughter and we really need the money, so I swallowed my pride and begged him. I told him I would take suspension or anything just to keep my job. He laughed and said, "its not my problem, you should have done your job". I dunno, maybe I am better off not being there. I just hope I can find something else. Is there a way to find out which companies report to DAC? I really dont want to have to call him and ask if he reports to DAC.
