LOL...never heard of poly wogs...and I was just beginning to wonder about poly logs on that load to begin with.

I've hauled a good bit of glass all over the place, all sizes on every kind of trailer Schneider had...never had any issues with stepped loads. Leland (Mop head) showed me how to secure those loads there at the glass plant in Church Hill, TN (thats home for me)..anyway, I guess things have changed some since I've hauled glass...I hauled my last load of it in 2005.

The Maverick in me wanted to try to help...but I think I better sit this one out since I'm so far out of date.

I wouldn't stress over it to much. When I worked at Maverick there was a guy named Bob; who wrecked his truck. I was told (from another driver that talked to him all the time) that within 30 mins of getting it out of the freightliner shop, he leaned over (while driving out of the lot) to grab his phone and centered a light pole. He was given another truck. Ole bob had major issues at Maverick and he kept his job, until he quit.

If you guys ever pick up rolled paper in Atlanta, GA going to Fletcher, OK and it has rained the night before, put a canvas on the front and back roll before you lumber tarp it. I picked up paper there one time and it had rained the night before (didn't know I was suppose to canvas tarp it as I hadn't ever done it before), strapped and tarped it. Got to Fletcher and the paper had condensation on it from where they loaded it outside. I called it into safety and my FM and told them about the issue. I also told them how they loaded it in Atlanta and they said don't worry about it, but if I ever picked up there again and it had rained the night before to put a canvas on the front and back, just to be on the safe side. The shipper got dinged with the damages because their loading area is not in a covered area.

Also, Jim had written about his door turn signal being out on his truck on one of these posts awhile back. I called a TN State Trooper (that use to be an otr driver) that I know and asked him what the amount of a citation for that would be, if pulled over for it. He said, the amount varies from county to county in Tennessee and that he could not tell me what the citation would be for another state. However, if it did happen and the driver had tried to replace it and hadn't been by a Freightliner or a TA didn't have it, explain your situation to the trooper and he/she should understand. They are a few troopers that use to be truck drivers; so they know what it's like.

I'd like to thank Jim The Hut, jxu417, Captain, Sarge and Ridgerunner for all the threads on this board (and other forums as some of you are avid posters elsewhere). I'm back home from 2 weeks orientation at NLR and so far EVERY Word I've read here about Maverick has been spot on!!!! Professional, honest, NO BS!!!

Tomorrow I start my journey with my trainer, I'm pumped, a little eager and excited hoping I can complete my training in my new career as a flatbedder!!!

Cool! Enjoy your next phase, but moreover, make sure that you learn everything that you can and practice it often while with your trainer, because the NEXT PHASE (Solo) is when the Hard Work starts. Good luck!

He and his wife actually drove up to say hi while we were delivering in Michigan city. Central states. Said as long as I was not backlit by the sun from about arms length he could turn his head slightly to the side and see that I was wearing sunglasses. Lol he actually helped fold the two canvas tarps we had under our steel tarp. (4foot drops) . He grabbed a corner of em and grumbled, "just tell me when to drop it when i come near the center. I put an attaboy in for him and told him I'd mention it in here as well

Evil_E, Coragran, projump and 2 others Thank this.

Well I guess I'm not fired! I delivered in Owaotona, MN Tuesday morning and now I'm on my way to Tuscaloosa, AL. They want the other dedicated driver and I to be able to fill in for the dock worker here in Spring Hill when he goes on vacation. So we have to shadow him for one week so he can show us how to load trailers. lol. We get paid the average of our last 6 pay checks to load 3 trailers a day and partially tie the tarps down. 7am- 3pm ish and home every night. Sounds like a deal to me.
