I just had to cancel a load for tomorrow. Carrier was booked today. Not done with his current load. The fruit he was supposed to pick up will not be off of the ship until tomorrow night, so they will not be loading until Monday. Carrier wanted a TONU, suffice it to say I did not issue one. I think this does not warrant a TONU.
What are some other thoughts on this?

I'd be mad as heck but I doubt many brokers would pay since it's tomorrow and he is not empty. Kind of a bad deal though because it's so late in the day. If he was delivering tonight and supposed to load first thing a.m. then I would say you should pay unless you can offer him a different load. If the load was not supposed to pick up until tomorrow afternoon then probably not.
BookingYou19 Thanks this. -
It was for FCFS. We had plenty of other loads right next to this specific load, going to other locations not to the original location. -
He never showed up to shipper to ld. correct?
You can the ld. prior. Nope no pay in my book..
Yes I'm an O/O. Had a deal kinda like that last week.
Booked a ld and at 4pm they said the ld. will not go as the customer has not called with del.
I asked for det. and was told nicely seeing how I was not at the shipper and it was canceled before pick up time, they will not pay.
Ok. I tried.BookingYou19 Thanks this. -
No he was not at the shipper. He didnt put up a fuss when I told him no TONU so i think he was just gonna give it the old college try, Cant hurt?

I agree with the others, and had one cancel just like that just day before yesterday. It would have been a reload from the exact same place I delivered at. Broker tried to come up with something else to work and was unable to. I know them well enough that I trust they did try, so asking for TONU never crossed my mind. That, and having to be right there anyway for the load that cancelled. It wasn't like I had to deadhead anywhere.
Turned out there wasn't anything else profitable enough to grab in the area, so that sucked a little. I was only 240 mi from home and a much better market so off I went after fishing for loads for half a day.
It wasn't all bad though. I did talk the dock hands into a free washout since they were originally to reload me LOL. So that at least saved me climbing in there and doing it myself, or paying somewhere else $25-30. -
So you got a $25-$30 TONU!! Yeah I wasnt expecting to get a lot of kickback on this decision.

If you count that I had a free, very secure, and relatively quiet place to park, and an awesome Mexican buffet a 10 min walk away, it was even better. Except for the part of not getting paid to leave. They even come around and knock on your door every eight hours if they haven't seen you making the journey to the restroom to make sure you're not dead. Much love there.BookingYou19 Thanks this.

I had this happen to me, actually. By friday I had Mon, Tues and Wed all set up, each load led very close to the next reload, so I was proud of myself for the very low dead head that he would have to do.
Over the weekend there was torrential rain at Tuesdays pick up location and she called me and cancelled the load Monday morning. Said the lot was flooded. I didn't ask for Tonu because she actually cancelled well in advance and I could most likely find something else for him to do, and she actually saved us the frustration of attempting to get to a location that could have cost us a tow bill.
I didn't find a load to replace Tuesdays load, but we still kept Wed's load because we had already agreed to do it. There are times when things just don't go right, like this, and then there are times when people just screw with you.
Now if this had been a TQL situation, where I know the load cancelled because they found a someone to haul it cheaper, I'd have been furious.

I knew that I was kinda reaching for my tonu deal, but I tried. Broker was nice about it though.
The ld. was to go last Wens. Fri. morning same broker called and said ld. is set for Monday now. Do you want it?
I politely turned it down as I had a ld. going to northern Ok. at the time. Said if you pay my DH, I would gladly do it. Long pause, No we can't do that.
But hey at least they did call and offer me first shot at it though.bullhaulerswife Thanks this.
