There's a few of us retirees that just wanted to hang on to our CDLs. We know we will most likely never driver a truck again but still remember the trouble we had getting the CDL in the first place. So for awhile I was saying no big deal if you do not have a medical card your license will just be downgraded to a class D. Starting at the first of the year I became wrong in my state. I called the DMV and of course their answer was you have to have a medical card if you want to drive. And then I said you mean a CMV. No your license will be no good at all. So if you fall into the category that you do not drive anymore and want to keep your CDL you'd better check REAL close with DMV to avoid problems later on.

What Next in the name of ''safety''...DOT APPROVED SAFETY DIAPERS and a dunce hat while driving.??

    Response by mje:
Don't laugh, this could very well happen, as sad and unfortunate it is to say. The federal government, as far as truck driving is concerned, has really gone off the beaten path.

If this is being interpreted correctly, one cannot even drive their own car if they do not update or submit their new medical card as a requirement to keep their CDL. This is RIDICULOUS. This should NOT affect ones personal car.

No it does not effect your personal car or your basic license, as usual the DMV person on the other end of the line is being stupid, they are not paid to think. I've gone through some situation where they said one thing isn't possible just after they read to me the law where it says it is. So the regs say a suspension of your cdl, nothing else so the state - which has posted regulations on all 50 of their websites - does the same thing as all other states, suspend the CDL portion of the license.

Here is the real problem with the regulation and I don't get how people can sit by and not complain to their state whether or not it effects them right now - they allowed the states to make people go through the entire CDL process again if they want to impose that on people instead of allowing them to suspend the privilege and then reinstating it at a later date without retraining. This means that if you have no way of getting your DOT physical done and miss the deadline, you have no grace period at all - example is if you are in the hospital and it comes up for renewal, you are screwed unless it is done by a DOT registered doc, and the likeliness of that happening when you are in the hospital is slim.

You hit the nail on the head....All this over regulation has left SLOBS,SLOTHS and NASTY.Just go to a truck stop and watch the Patients get out of these trucks. Most of these are not ''professionals''..

I seen a lady yesterday get out of her truck..She was around 350 lbs, yellow teeth from all them cigerettes and tar on her lips..She had pink sweatpants on that were flooded up to her calfs and 10 sizes to small..There it was starring at me,the dreaded ''##### TOE''.She had a tweetie bird walmart shirt on and a mickey mouse hat on...

They call this ''PROFESSIONAL''..I am sorry but i guess there idea of a professional is much different than mine...

The Big Business Boys in this business finally got what they wanted,CHEAP DRIVERS AND CHEAP LABOR....
