Well called freightliner in ontario .....75 for opacity test then 300 for datalogger and then they can tell me how if the dpf will be between 12 to 18 k and then it is 4 to 6 weeks to order as they are custom yada yada.....they are mostly passive And need to be cleaned annualy prob me personally might consider every six months ...they have a five year warrunty ....i am still on the fence still not many "customer" reviews as i think my 01 engine with dpf sounds more economical than an egr motor with dpf
Has anyone had a California PDf (soot filter) installed on a older truck

Talked to one of the older guys at my work about this yesterday. He said that many dealers are refusing to install these things now because they were left to deal with warranty issues for businesses products that later went bankrupt. It sounds like a lot of the DPF retrofits have proven themselves completely non-viable. He mentioned that there are carriers/contractors getting exemptions AFTER they pay to install the DPF to where they are allowed to then bypass their filter legally, just have to have documentation present with the truck. Seems like a whole lot of money to spend for no apparent reason...

Now that fr8liner dealer in ontario ...i spent about 15 min on the phone with a mechanic ..,,systems sound fairly simple but i think where issues might arise is if you lose a turbo or injector or start pushing oil out stack and if you hit that point take filter off and stay out of ca til ur fixed which i dont see running long with those kinda issues
robbiehorn Thanks this. -
Talk about stickershock talked to joplin peterbuilt at truck show 20500 but no testing required fits on any truck only thing i liked was back pressure guages and restrictions guages in truck but still hoping for another year extension since all this crud in on major backorders

I'd stay away from all of the retrofit systems. I haven't come across anyone with any kind of retrofit system who was totally satisfied with it. We bought two ECS purifilter systems for a pair of 01 Pete's with 6NZ C-15s. Back in early 09 there weren't a lot of DPF choices out there and we needed to get two installed in order to take advantage of early retrofit double credit (we are based in CA and haul 90% of our loads there). The systems are active systems but require weekly (sometimes twice weekly) plug ins to a 480v regen panel for 3 hours to regenerate the filter. After 3 years and 200k miles the back pressure generated by the filters has wiped out one of the engines which was a fresh inframe right before the filter went on. It uses a gallon of oil every 2000 miles with the pan half full of Lucas oil treatment. The other truck we retrofitted isn't far behind the first one. We've had to replace both DPF elements as well to the tune of 10k each when the catalysts died (and became too loaded with ash)....which brings the total spent on each unit including the cost of the system to 30k each. Personally....I'd educate myself on what it takes to keep an 07-up factory DPF engine alive and put my money towards one of those. Be wary of what some of these DPF installation outfits are pushing: many are like used car dealers and game show hosts. They are only here to make a quick buck and are only riding this wave til it dies.

I ll throw my .02 in here! I currently run CA and and deciding between getting a retrofit or going 2011 year truck. I know only person that has a retrofit on 2003 KW T2000. He was basically forced to get because he does drayage out of Oakland port. His truck has not seen any problems. He usually has to burn the soot thru exhaust every 3-4 days for about an hr. He gets the filter cleaned once a year, which takes about a full day at the stealership.
Now for people thinking its better to get truck that come with DPF ( 08-10 ) are wrong. I know way too many drivers that are loosing sensors, Filter clogging up even running OTR, and just throwing every code in the book. There's a big reason that a 2010 truck can be had for 60-65k and a 2011 starting at about 85k.
