Work for a smaller company that does flatbed and heavy haul, work hard, be safe and in time with enough experience you will move up, be patient as things like this take time.

    Sleepy68 and Bigchevy Thank this.

Work hard and keep your record clean, Stay with the same company as long as physically possible, Maybe check to see who is running flats as well as O/S and Heavy maybe they have a ;pee wee league till you get enough experience to run with the big dogs! Good Luck!

Watkins & Shepard has a heavy haul division, but don't know if it's at their Denver terminal or not. Check the website and give them a call.

Rinaudo Enterprise in Jacksonville, FL has hired some new CDL grads recently and trained them for heavy haul. Don't know if there's a terminal near you though.

May I recommend an exercise to help you? In heavyhaul and OSOW, you HAVE TO be able to get your axle weights right. Sometimes cat scales are far away. You want to get the weights right the first time. So...

I want you to practice getting your axle weights, drives and trailer even. Yes,I know that most states will give you 40k on a 10'2 spread, but we are looking past the 48 flat, you're looking ahead to the specialized trailers. When you get a big coil, load it to where everything is even.
Next time you get to a cat scale, get the empty weight of your steers, drives and trailer axles. Find the center of the trailer to load. The rest I will leave to you to figure out.
