Nope. As long as you can pass the DOT physical you should be good to go. This means no banned meds (not saying you are on any btw!) and having your health in order. These days 60 is the new 40. Go for it bud.
unloaderCaptain Call, MZdanowicz and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
That's all according to your health and how you feel inside. I don't know that any carrier is going to "discriminate" based on your age. I suppose it's possible, but doubtful so long as you can demonstrate you're mentally sharp, physically healthy and capable. But if there are any questions whatsoever in your mind about your physical and mental fitness in the months and years to come, I would urge you to reconsider because small mistakes and physical 'hiccups" at bad times can prove very damaging to you and others in this business, in an instant.

Calla few companies first just to make sure.

Thank you Unloader. I do take medication. They are all prescription. Is there anywhere I would be able to find a list of medications that would be problematic? As far as the DOT physical, I feel I am in good health. Again, is there any place I could pre-test to see if I am in good enough shape to pass?Skydivedavec Thanks this.

I know exactly what you mean about "hiccups". Quite frankly, it is one of my major concerns. Not so much about me but about my concern for other drivers. Actually, that might be the deciding factor.Skydivedavec Thanks this.

Good advice. Will do.

Age is not the issue, flexibility is. This is a job that includes a whole lot of crap. Can you go with irregular schedules, getting treated like dirt at some shippers and receivers, watching people drive like fools day and in and day....and keep on goin' and grinnin'?
gentleroger, Skydivedavec, MZdanowicz and 1 other person Thank this. -
It is more about your health and physical ability then your actual age.. as stated, 60 is the new 40... There are younger people in bad health and not physically fit and able to do the job..
Only, you know how healthy and fit you are.. and as pointed out, if you think you may become ill in the near future then think it through..
There was just that airline captain that suffered a heart attack while in air with a plane full of passengers.. fortunately, the don't fly solo..
My dad just turned 80 last year... Retired military, retired from two other companies and up until last month was still working.. not because he has to.. with his military retirement and pensions from the other two companies.. he is just not ready to stop working.... And he puts to shame a lot of younger people...Captain Call, camaro68, Skydivedavec and 1 other person Thank this. -
Sounds like my present job. Also, I try real hard not to let anyone else's actions define how I get through my day.Skydivedavec Thanks this.
