I have the On Guard Anti Collision warning system on my company truck, and at 500 feet front the vehicle in front it tells me the speed of the vehicle , and when I come up behind Prime trucks, it says 58 mph.
-
Those ppl do 57mph on interstate. I can't stand them at all. They cause a lot of traffic behind em all the time.
-
I like doing 55... I feel bad for all the people who have to drive fast to get a half way decent paycheck.slowpoke89 Thanks this.
-
Coincidence? I can't stand all the people that complain about it.
It's great, there's hardly ever anyone in my way at 55 mph. Occasionally when I'm empty or light loaded a few trucks get in my way on hills.. Amazing thing about that? when that happens I change lanes and go around them. Oh! the unbelievable inconvenience! [sarcasm]
Everyone complains saying we are a hazard and someone is going to run into us... Funny if you can't see my truck and go around me, then you're a moron that's not paying attention to the road. You got your entire windshield with which to see me, and I've just got mirrors. Who should be watching out for who in that situation. Remind me again how it's my fault in a rear end collision.
Who uses the mirrors? It certainly cant be the faster truck using its mirrors . 80% of the time they can't keep their truck in their own lane as they blow by. So I don't think they know how to use their mirrors. You call us a hazard?
It's not quite the topic, but I'll let you in on my secret. My own private glee is when I'm empty or light loaded and the 60+ mph heavier truck thinks he's going to blow by me as I roll in the far left lane on the hill, 1/4 way up he's almost past me, then he can't clear me, and I motor on by never getting one mph over 55 as he falls back.FLATBED, jomar68, silenteagle and 1 other person Thank this. -
And I like doing the speed limit lol. So if u feel sorry for people that do speed limit to make a check so be it. But if prime drivers ever take a look on some of the roads they travel doing 55 in a 70 on a one lane road with about 20 behind you that's kinda messed up

To answer the original question. Prime is 57/58 on the pedal and 62 on cruise. I believe lease ops can go up to 65. If you're fuel mileage is terrible, sometimes they will cut it down more.

Your maxing out the speed limit, someone going 55 in a 65 zone would be within the speed limit.
-
Last I checked, most states have a MINIMUM SPEED LIMIT of 40 or 45 on the interstates. Michigan has 50mph and 55mph on their interstates. If you like driving faster, improve your passing skills to safely pass trucks moving slower.
One of the reasons Prime is governed at all is because it is a self insured company. This is the only way ANY company in the industry can train drivers. Otherwise you would be looking for someone to have mercy on you and get you the 2 years experience needed to get to a good company that does not train. I would call this a service to the industry. IF you have read through the post at the top of our forum, you might conclude that our training program is one of the best in the industry. I have been training people on stuff since my Army days and know the training process, and Prime is on the right track to develop the best methods of training.
Another reason to govern the trucks at 65 (lease drivers are governed) is to drive in Canada. We take freight there, and it is usually good paying freight.
Finally, The cost of fuel should be a no brainer. Those of you driving fast and wondering why your company can't pay you a good rate, or those O/O's always crying for those "$2" per mile loads just don't get it?!? Slowing down could be putting hundreds of dollars into your pocket, or saving your company enough to offer you a raise.FLATBED Thanks this. -
Nice to see an accurate reply.
Thanks.
