If your doing some kind of lease purchase or running under their authority it makes sense to require e-logs and governor the trucks. All the tractors that I have are pre-ECM motors. And most of the o/o have retro trucks as well. I think c-15 cat is the newest that they have. But with the logs even the new 48 hr restart is a huge restriction that is something that needs to be by passed or guys will miss out on an additional run per week. That's 1,200$ which makes a very large difference in their paycheck. It's becoming very difficult to make a living driving your own equipment. Everyone wants to make all their money off your back then tell you that your doing it wrong.

But just for argument sake, the field is no where near level. Large companies get fuel discounts, maintenance discounts, tire discounts, millions of dollars per year in discounts. So their level of success is catered to for sure. That's just the fact of the matter, where I get my discount is on the extra 1 or 2 runs per week that the e-logs simply don't allow.

Electronic logs are not the boogey man some people make it out to be. You simply have to run legal. The fact that a company owner can know all his drivers are running legal, should let them sleep better at night. All it takes is a single Super Trucker, pushing himself just a little too far, to get a company sued for millions of dollars.
Stop doing cheap freight, and the need to do that extra run each week will take care of itself. If a driver is running 70 hours in a week, and can't make enough money to be worth it, they are the problem, not the E-logs.
What I am reading between the lines, in your "Old School" thinking, is that E-logs are "Restricting" you only from running illegal. Get legal, or get off my highway. -

I fail to see how the type of work would prohibit e-logs. But anyways its just another system to learn. Just like on paper you have little things you can do to maximize your time the same is true here. The difference is that you have to do it in real time. I average 630 miles a day on e-logs.

4000 miles a week is just ''asking for it'' on todays highways..Not to mention just plain STUPID....Only a dumbed down driver would agree to these terms Joe..
Work smarter not harder joe.Company or O/O.Running those miles is just not a good thing for a persons mind,body and soul..Its a short life to work like that...

I have been on e logs for quite sometime now and sure they don't have the flexibility loose leaf logs do there's still a lot you can do with them and be legal . I've had several weeks where I've got 3500 miles legally , it's all about time management and trip planning. Would I like to go back to where I could stop and take a nap if I was tired and it not affect my 14 hr sure i would but that's not going to happen. With all the ways for them to bust you running out of hours it's just not worth the risk any longer.
The days of takking bennies and driving the east coast to the west coast and back with out stopping are over with lol. If I was a owner of a trucking company I would want to know I was doing everthing I could to keep my drivers safe and not to mention the wife and kids driving down the interstate beside a driver that should be sleeping.
