Kingpin Locks

I'm confused, you say "when we got there", weren't you sleeping in the truck?

 

The best is to have GPS tracking on the trailer. That way if it does get stolen you can find it.

 

Maybe so maybe not but a king pin and not padlocking the trl with a heavy duty lock wouldn't stop these low lifes from stealing whats in your trl and putting it in a uhaul.Yes trls get stolen but many strip trls right where its at.

 

In my time on the road I have never dropped a loaded trailer outside a customer or terminal or secured barb wired drop yard. There is no reason for it and it's irresponsible behavior. You'll do plenty of empty time waiting for a load is when you take care of your personal business.

Yes I used one when I dropped the empty trailer at a truckstop more as a deterrent than anything else. They can easily be removed with a chisel and hammer. Wear gloves and store it in a couple grocery sacks as they do get greasy or you'll have grease all over the place.

My last company seemed to have loaded trailers stolen all the time from irresponsible drivers. If they were any indication I would guessdamate a dozen trailers get stolen everyday. It's something you don't hear much about but from in house.

 

If you ever drop a high value load, ,you would more than likely lose your job, its highly doubtful a carrier would give permission to drop the trailer and leave it unattended

 

I do agree.But companies do give drivers a load to pick up while on your way home and then deliver it on the day your scheduled to go back out.My last company did that with every hometime.So everyday I would go to the trk stop to check on it.If some of these customers knew some carriers do this,they would drop them.

 

They are made out of pot metal. Sure there are more expensive ones but the cheapies will split with a chisel or hammer. I watched a mechanic do it one day and it didn't take him but a few seconds.

The other way is a cordless drill or chisel taking out the lock assembly wouldn't take a minute. They are basically a deterrent and a greasy mess. Look for the guy with grease all over him and you found the thief, lol.

 

I never went home loaded but I know what you are saying. Those are more like passing through hometime for them drivers. That case you keep the tractor under the load and the trailer doors locked if you don't have a secure location. There is options out there like renting a spot at a local company or even a RV lot. I have done that when I lived in Chicagoland.

 

That's exactly what I did but for my peace of mind I still checked on trl because I cleaned trk anyway with the days I had off.Some companies are more worried about the mightly dollar then freight.Even though I had 5 days home time is was always get home late thursays or early Fri and head back out mon morning
