You should look in to I P D they are in Torrance Ca and have good quality parts . Their pistons are better than Cat go into the tec side of there web site they have been around a long time . I have used their engine parts in the off road app with no problems . Thanks hope this helps someone..

I don't know that IPD is any better or less expensive than OEM.. I think it mostly depends on who-where you're ordering-buying from.. Alot of people say buying directly from Cat is higher than at a truck dealership, but that isn't always true.. Where I live there is a small cat shop that doesn't work on trucks, but they can get anything I need by the next day..
On rod-main bearings, head gasket kits, filters, liner kits, and such they can beat the price I get at the closest Pete, Shaker, or KW dealers.. The local independant parts house sells IPD but they can't beat cat's price either.. I have used IPD gasket sets and they're better quality IMO, but haven't tried any IPD hard parts yet..
Until the savings are substantial, I'll keep buying OEM just because I like the yellow boxes better.. -
Did you read this line in clevites warranty?
"
All payments made for warranties accepted under this policy shall be in the form of a merchandise credit. Owner shall not be permitted to request any other form of payment."
That to me sounds like you pay and they give you a CREDIT.

yes that is what it means "credit" smart business sense because they keep making $$ out of you.

whats the deal with teflon coating pistons? is it snake oil or is it all that and a bucket of chicken?

Has anyone had success with an aftermarket kit in a Cat? I know everyone recommends oem parts but I'm looking at using an aftermarket kit because I won't be making long runs with this truck.

3406C got 700K on some PTFE coated IPD slugs and jugs. Pulled out the Clevite rods and mains last year and threw CAT in and the Clevite looked like more attention paid to detail during mfg. like chamfered oil holes. CAT oil holes look punched and still had some little burrs on them.
I'd feel safe with IPD or Mahle and Clevite.grizzly Thanks this. -
I swore by cat oem parts for along time. until I bought a ipd overhaul kit and seen how they are built. $2400 try and see if you can buy a cat overhaul kit for that!
puncher Thanks this.
