Do not buy either engine if they are 2008 and 2009. You will regret it. If you need to be emissions compliant buy something that also takes DEF. If not, buy something 2007 or older. Avoid any truck with a DPF only on it. They are designed to bankrupt the owner. If you do proceed, make sure you have fire insurance included. You will need it when you decide to set the thing on fire.

If you are going to buy either one of these trucks get the one that you like best BUT Make Darn Sure You Purchase Extra Insurance on your Engine,Trans, etc. DON'T BUY DEALER INSURANCE Their "DEALERS" insurance Aint worth the ink it was written with. You may spend $3000 for coverage but you will have a piece of mind for a year 10/10 Hello Come in

Why do you have to buy today? It sounds like an impulse decision. Neither one sounds decent. :)

Honestly, I'm reading a lot between the lines, and none of it is good.
I concur with Condo, and ANY impulse or rushed purchase will nearly always (99%) end up as a regret.
Trucks are like fish... there's a ton of them in the sea.

From what I've researched the D16 Volvo engine is a nightmare compared to the ISX and because of this trucks with the D16 can be bought for less coin.

I think the D16 has a bad reputation.

thank you everyone for the great responses! I wanted to post a short request that would generate some fast replies.

So here it is.... I was at Loan Mountain in Tifton and those were basically my choices. I had drove down Monday to see the inventory for myself before I made a down payment. I had gone down with the intention of purchasing one of the ProStars and came across the Volvo 780 w/D16, it has the 13k front and the 40k rear axles and I right away thought it would be more suited to pulling flatbed/stepdeck loads than the ProStar. I have had absolutely no experience with Volvos, so I put out the request for help. Thank you all again for the input.

to finished the story, I went with the fuel economy of the ISX in the ProStar, and found one with only 390k miles. I feel with the money I save in fuel over the life of the lease I will be able to make an investment in a nice heavy haul truck.

I've can't thank you enough for jumping in and helping out, and I need to thank Lone Mountain for getting me into my first truck!

BeN DaViS and baha Thank this.
