A lot has been said about trucking, the negatives have sure been discussed a lot and very few times the positives have even been discussed. My last two threads talked about the bad things that go on, and this was because I wanted to give my insight into some very real scenarios that are often not thrilling to go through.

Many newbies have never been out of their own States let alone their own town, so the opportunity to see the country is there. I've been everywhere and I still look forward to going places all over again, even if I've been there a thousand times.

My oldest son is my partner on the truck and we've had opportunities to stop and go to auto shows, stop and fish and see the country together. We even got to see Tim McGraw in concert. We've been to Sturgis as well.

I've met a lot of interesting people and forged friendships that will go on past my trucking career. This is a perk. You don't find this too often in life.

After a few years in this industry, you will see your pay go up. The money is in teaming, because as a solo driver, you can only get so many miles per week. It takes longer to get loads from shipper to receiver. A team can go further faster.

You can raise a family through your trucking career and if your single and manage your money well, you can build a pretty solid retirement.

Trucking can be good and offer many lifestyle enhancing benefits, if your willing to put the time in, nothing in this industry happens without longevity.

Thank you for starting this thread explaining some of the good side of this job. I meant no disrespect on your other thread.

TO me the positive out runs the Neg. I not able to drive now due to health reasons, but I miss it and wish I was back out there. I miss the challenges it brings, to back in to that tight dock, or maneuver between the tight corners with a 53 foot trailer. I miss seeing the small kids pumping their arms to blow my air horn. Meeting new people every day and seeing others after a long period of time. Seeing the Sun Setting over the Rockies while heading west and sun rising over the Smokies.

Yes the DOT gives you an hassel and the local cops also. Dispatch is bugging you but That only counts minutes of a day..

Other than your pay you may get rewarded with a pat on the back from a customer for making it on time or not hitting the grass while making a turn. Yes I had more call ins on me for the good stuff than I did for the bad things I done. Even when I mess up I gotten called in on saying thanks for my honesty. It all pays off.

You really do need a positive attitude to succeed in this industry. Many of the negative comments I read are from new drivers or ones in training.People needs to give trucking a chance.Sure its not peaches and cream every day but what job is.

Yesterday.. we were stopped taking a 30.. I went to the restroom and got back in the truck and my trainer/ partner was on the phone.. he was talking to another driver from the company.. from what he was saying I thought he was talking about a dog who would be good to take on the road.. I heard him say she has a good temperament, doesn't mess up the truck and minds what she is told..

After he hung up I asked " is he thinking about taking a dog with him on the road..n
He looked at me weird not understandingg my question so I said.. well I heard you say good temperment, dosnt mess up the truck and minds well...

To that he laughed.. really hard too.. and said.. then told me he was talking about me.. LOL

The point is.. that with the company I am with I have more options.. I can go solo.. or I can go dedicated team.. or I can do some teaming with some of the other drivers.. getting to learn more from a few experienced drivers and then go solo..

This is my second time out on the road with someone training me.. the first guy taught me a lot about driving and all.. but, we did not get along well... Now, I am with someone who I get along well with and what a difference..

I had another partner who was with me up until 10 years ago. He decided to retire and for the last month we were teaming, I heard all about how he was going to live in Tempe Arizona by his grand babies. He did retire and 4 days later he dropped dead of a heart attack.

My son is a great team partner because he has a similar work ethic and he has a understanding of the business. We succeed not because of anything more than we get along but it could always go the other way too.

I must say.. my first time out.. with someone who we didn't get along well.. teaming was not something I was even going to entertain... I was dead set on SOLO..

This time however.. we get along well and work together well.. we have a lot of respect and consideration for eachother and we get the job done... What is really nice, is that it is enjoyable to be out with someone your work well with and get all.g well with.. it adds to it.. it isn't something you endure through..

It is professional.. as a female and a trainee.. he gives me the respect and courtesy I deserve.. and I do the same for him... The boundaries are not fuzzy.. we are co workers and have a job to do.. and although we get along and make it fun we don't muddy the waters..

As someone who is just entering this profession and having worked for a large company, I have come to realize that there are two type of people. (B)Pitch and moaners and people that get the job done (Doers). Theses people the surround themselves with the same type of people as themselves. The B/Mers always have an excuses why they could not complete the given task. The Doers always completed the same task in the same time frame with the same obstacles as the B/Mers but with different results. People that surround themselves with positive people are always going to out perform people that are always negative. Same way as on this site. People have learned their profession and made a living of of it and others have struggle because all they do is B/M.
