After 4 years of almost constant use, my factory installed Webasto finally quit. Then, because there was an Espar dealer very close to my house, I wanted to switch to an Espar but got talked into a "gray market " - "Chinese Webasto". Apparently all of them are made in China now, (Espar and Webasto) so I took a chance.
BIG FRIGGIN MISTAKE.
In 18 months I've had 5 different units in here and the longest lasting one was 6 months. The dealer had apologized and extended the warranty to 2 years and now I just show up and they switch it with a reman unit instead of fixing it because it's faster. The problem is always the glow plug.mikec265 Thanks this. -
maybe my russian heater aint so bad........

I got a small space heater from Wal-Mart, that was fairly cheap, got so hot in the bunk, I had to turn it offBeethoven said: ↑I run a honda 2000i generator in my xl classic so I don't have to idle. It has worked out great through the summer with a portable ac. But now that winter is coming, does anyone know of a good heater to use? I was thing of a ceramic heater but wonder if it will be able to do the job. any ideas?
Thanks and as always, be careful out there.Click to expand... -
I'm sorry but I really need to know how it is a good idea to spend 600 + bucks on something that might last 6 years? And really not even 6 yrs. But only 6 winters. That's like only 3 1/2 yrs.
It seemes that it would be so much more economical to just get a little ceremic heater from wakly world and run it off my generator. -
The heater uses less fuel than most generators, off setting the cost. less noise too. less weight. Now if the generator is running already for the block heat then that is a different story.Beethoven said: ↑I'm sorry but I really need to know how it is a good idea to spend 600 + bucks on something that might last 6 years? I probably use my Webasto 9 months of the year. Even if it's just a few minutes in the mornings, if I wake up and figure I need a little heat I just reach up and turn it on and stay in bed till it's warm enough. Can't do that with a generator unless it's got remote start or is an APU.
They are almost maintenance free and use so little fuel that you won't see a measurable amount being consumed. As nice as a Honda 2000 or something similar is, for heat alone, a bunk heater can't be beat. The payback on one is likely, months at worst.
