I'm not familiar with Mercedes engines. Are you sure it is a 2007 with a DPF system? Most of these did not start production until 2008/2009. Anyway, most of the other manufactures have warnings that are progressively worse. Once you get a red stop engine light, that normally means either a service call or towed to the shop. Not much you can do on the side of the road, sorry.

Thanx. Actually blocking runway at O'Hare. It is a de-icing machine. We cannot go by miles we go by hours. First time this happened was just past 2000 hrs. Got raped by mechanic who wiped it clean and was told previous airport did nothing maintenance wise. Been preforming regens religously since then and logged 170 hrs. Do you think if I had him wipe clean again I could get another 100 hrs? Or am I creating a fire hazard? Exhaust brake was almost red hot this time.---Ang---

Well what u could do is have the filters removed and send them out to be cleaned and baked and all that check with freightliner but i believe chicago international can get them cleaned in a day or so if they find something wrong with the filters they will let u know if one is cracked or needs to be replaced also make sure u remove the 7th injector Nd clean it with carb cleaner and a soft brush that would be an good start and then see what happens possible ure filters are all plugged up and its dumping more fuel to try to burn them clean

Finding the right technician seems to be 3/4 of the battle now a days. Regen problems and aftertreatment systems are complicated to the average "mechanic". Repair costs and down time can quickly sky rocket with the wrong talent. Every manufacture has their own creation. There are some commonalities, but this is one area you really need to find someone who knows Mercedes the best. I have no experience with the equipment you are using so I really can't say. With the exhaust brake getting hot like you are mentioning, it sounds like it is partially stuck closed or something. When exhaust is overheated it will turn to a light tan chalky colour.

For your mercedes issue. Have a tech check fuel pressure at the priming port. You could have an issue with the overflow valve on the left rear of engine stuck open, not allowing the fuel pressure to be at the correct pressure. Resulting in an incomplete regen. The issue could also be as easy as a plugged fuel filter

99.99% of all regen problems can be solved, and kept at bay, by doing an ER tune-up regularly on an ISX.

Read this whole thread, study it, watch the youtube videos, and learn to care for your problem child...
