Calm down RubberDuckie....I just think he is saying, you are all talk, and no walk. You will NOT proceed any farther than complaining about it on a message web board.
And I agree with him.
Yes it is a classless move on the companies part....but you ain't the first, and you won't be the last----and NOBODY goes any further with their complaint than to just talk about it, and these companies will continue to get away with it.
I remember years back I had applied for a driving job (small reefer company in Nebraska---Harris or Harrison Trucking or something like that), and the owner called me up and told me everything looks good....when would you like to start. I said I had a couple questions on some literature she sent me; and asked what is this "$500.00 collected from first two checks thing"---she said that is in case I left and the truck was a mess.
I said "Wait....you want ME to pay YOU to drive your truck?!?"....she said "yep"....and I said "nope", and hung up and never looked back.

They stole the $150.00 fee they charge for a truck clean out when you quit. Only problem is I didn't leave the truck dirty at ALL. Took pictures, video, they still refuse to return my money. Currently talking to a lawyer to see what my options are.
And how much of that $150.00 will you have after your LAWYERS BILL ?
truckinmike1984 and paparas Thank this. -
I've heard several Crete and Shaffer drivers complain about this when they switched trucks. Pretty much they want the truck spotless, especially the floors.
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
They're not "nit picking" they are stealing your money regardless of how clean the truck is when you turn it in. Because they can. -
I realized when i first started trucking that smaller carriers are better for me personally...I worked for a large carrier once and hated ever single second of it.
It was like the trucking version of a puppy mill. -
I'll chime in here....
I've had two trucks issued to me and both were absolutely filthy! Both were smoker's trucks and both drivers were charged for detailing the truck I was told. I had both trucks detailed at Wilmer and paid nothing for this. Truck one was a turn in at a terminal so there was no excuse for the driver to turn it in in the condition I received it. He had the opportunity to clean it out and chose not to. The pre-issue inspection noted how dirty the truck was thus the no charge for the detailing it received when I got it to my home terminal. The issuing terminal would have cleaned it but it was the weekend and I would have had to wait till Monday. When I turned that truck in it was spotless and I received a "clean" remark on my turn-in inspection. I was not charged for cleaning the old truck.
Truck number two was a recovery from a dealership so I felt sorry for the guy who had to leave it. I mean what could he really do as far as cleaning it out when it came in on a meat hook. Nonetheless he kept a filthy truck! Ashes everywhere, spilled soda in the floor and dust all over are inexcusable if you take pride in your home. I know I wipe my truck down about once a week. I have a strict "no shoes beyond the front floorboard" rule and I have a blow nozzle for cleaning out the floors. I like it clean so I keep it clean.
When turning in a truck all floor areas must be clean and ALL surfaces have to be wiped for dust and grease/smudges and so forth. There's a vacuum at the fuel island so all cubby holes and shelves are clean. If you keep up with things cleaning out a truck is easier. -

The first time they did it to me the truck I turned in was being sold. I cleaned it for about two hours. When I told the Knoxville shop foreman I was done. He responded there is no way it can done you only spent 2 hours cleaning it. I then asked him if I should take it to Blue Beacon since it hadn't been washed in about 2 months. He responded that wouldn't be necessary they were only concerned about the inside being clean. Do the math if they swap out 2500trucks per year at $150 per unit that is $375000 they are stealing from their drivers. $1,500,000 in a 4 year period. I could see a lawyer trying for a class action lawsuit.

Being a former Crete Slave I can say everything in your post sounds 100% true. If you have no life and don't mind staying out 4 to 5 weeks at a time you can earn hi 50's low 60's.
