Colorado kid here who can answer that, Frost. And the answer is, "It Depends".

If you roll out now (the middle of the day), then you should save some time taking 287. Also, the trees are changing colors right now and it should be a pretty drive.

But if it is rush hour, or bad weather, then you will be happier and probably make better time taking I-80 over to I-25.

By the way, if you are running past the farm (I-25 and exit 240, the Mclane Exit) around dinner time, hit me back and I'll have a sandwich with you.

    Arkansas Frost Thanks this.

Ran it last week because of high winds. It's actually shorter going 287. Not a bad road. Has a few grades to climb. But, I was empty and driving a 47 ft bull wagon

I've been trying to get there for a week. Apparently my UT inspection is up and must go there. What a pain.

Congratulations man! Keep us posted on the journey and just remember...If you find yourself passing UPS or FedEx, back off and fall in behind 'em. They know something you can't see. Good luck on your journey and stay safe.

I can't speak for Clyde, but in my experience those UPS and FedEx guys are usually blowing past like we are sitting still, so if you are catching up with one of them, there is probably a reason why they have slowed down. It's good advise, to fall in behind because of that til you know why. They run the same line haul every week and know where the bear traps and construction obstacle courses are.

Aww man, I hate missing out on sandwiches! I took a short. The highway opened by 11 so I just continued on. I was on my way to IL or I would have definitely taken 287 but with all the ice, I'm glad I didn't have to reroute. Keep you in mind next time I'm out that way.
