What would be the best thing to haul for a new driver?

If you are a company driver. Loads is the easiest to not worry about. Fighting stupid management is the hard part. Pick and Choose your battles wisely

 

This maybe a stupid question, but why don't big rigs have back up camera's?

 

Some do, but as of now, a driver is still expected to be able to use the mirrors and drive. But soon, they will stupify things a bit more, get rid of all mirrors, put cameras and the little beep thingy and automatically apply the brakes. That way, the idiots that never learned how to use mirrors in cars can be a big time truck driver too! Of course, the companies can pay them less than other drivers, but they won't mind. They're just glad to be able to drive.

 

Driver: the Best thing to haul is the best paying load you can get. This will change from time to time, you will like some you will think some loads are for other driver. One day at a time and things have a way of working them self's out. When the CB is all negative and you are all ready not have a good day Shut it off. You will not need there advice.

 

Potholes are pretty easy to haul.

 

If you have any decent amount of common sense, you won't have any troubles. I can see someone who has to struggle to learn just how to maneuver a truck having problems, but most people should have no issues.

 

Back in the dark ages, it was a normal recommendation to run dry van first, then move to flatbed. Then came the spread axle trailer, and it was good.

But wait! The spread axle trailer doesn't turn or react like a tandem axle trailer! All that time spent pulling a tandem axle dry van trailer, and now I have to relearn how to move a trailer! Oh, woe is me....

Modern advice is to start out in flatbed if you are interested in actually working for a living (go for it, door slammers! I gots my special flame resistant boxers on, gimme yer best shot). Any outfit willing to take students into a flatbed operation will put you through a load secure meant course, and you will also be learning from your trainer.

 

Pick the thing that scares you the most and then go for it !!! After you master that everything else us just cake !!!
