I got fired due to repeated log violations not from dot or chp I have had my log book looked at many times going thru scales and what not and I dont have a single log book violation from DOT I just could not seem make the CRE log computer happy. I dont really get it myself cre cant even find drivers that dont crash into things my driving record is accident free but people there dont make the disisions computer programs do and they deemed me likely to cause cre a problem so fired after one year no problem I will go else where and try to work on my log book skills it is not my strong point Im not a paper work person but I am getting better.

They will go over everything. There is a lot to learn and it is fast paced and the days are very long no days off little down time. Those in our class who studied ahead did the best and helped the rest of us. No doubles triples or that at CRE. Air brakes seemed hard and being a not so mechanical woman the parts of the truck especially the engine was hard. Make friends and form a study support group! You will be better than okay!
I did not take my lap top to class. When you first arrive you do drug test and interview things.
Don't worry!!! Just go and get-er-done!!! You can do this if you want to. Our class did and we were scared at first too.
I will be off line for a few days.
Blessings to everyone!

Well, I was supposed to go with CRE back on the 28th of Jan, but decided to put it off and try to become a cop. Since it doesn't seem like that will happen as I failed a part of the physical test, it seems like I will be looking at CRE to do the truck driving thing again. Just need to come up with the money to be able to get into the school.
They were gonna accept me with a speeding ticket back in October of 2004 for driving 24 miles over the speed limit. I will go back to my search for a better company with a somewhat short training period that is cheap enough for me to afford. Preferrably one that would allow me to have my dogs.
Good luck Rolling_Thunder. I hope you make it. -
If you have doubts about cr thing, then I'd go with scheinder. You can have my brochures and JB hunt too!. You should really should take a few lessons at commercial driver training. See if you like it, and if you do, Get your license and go see Jimmy who I worked for. Haul gasoline and fuel oil. Pays real well, and nice loading and unloading. If I was back in New York, I'd be up and down that worlds biggest parking lot. Loading my pockets with that loot. OTR is tough business, and them motels are few in between. You live in your sleeper, you better follow the rules, different then the taxi business. You'd better listen to this ma monster.

You just have to pick one of these big companys and get it done they are all the same cr england at least has nice trucks i drobve for them for a year i dont have many great things to say about the company but i will say it doesnt matter which one you start with just do it jump in drive for 2 years without crashing and then go work where you want my advice do not lease i didnt and i at least got a paycheck every week which is way more then i can say about most least drivers i talked to so take your pick but do it sooner then later time is a wasting.

I'm really curious - why go through CDL training with a truck company? Granted, you can get your CDL with company A and walk down the street to Company B for a job.. but going on the strength of a loan... well, it just bugs the heck out of me - even if you are driving for company B, you are still beholden to company A for the money.
Talk about starting your life in debt!
Just about anybody who has a job can get a WIA grant for a good commercial school (Heck, even I did - if it weren't for some paranoid doctor freaking out because I have sleep apnea I'd be in class this very second). You have to jump through a couple hoops, but for me, I went from initial application to approved with grant letter in hand in two weeks. Out of pocket expenses for me at the school? $250, spread over 4 weeks. That includes books, learner's permit, CDL and endorsements.
Yeah, out of pocket would be higher if I didn't live 15 minutes away from the school, but there are plenty of inexpensive motels in the area. Or, if you are as ornery as I am, there's a couple of camp grounds...
Hrm.. maybe I answered my own question here.. company schools are useful because they typically give you a room and shower? -
get your butt in that seat and get on with it. I'd give my right toe to see you do this. heck I'd teach you myself if I were down there. You want to do it, stop being nerveous and get you butt in that seat, and do it. Get on that plane and just stop worrying about it. I know you for years and your always worrying. This will give you confidence. Just play that country music as your going on down the road, and with that C.B Radio on. When I started they had 45 footers, and had rights, and trip leasing and all that good stuff. you have it easy. Just handle them 53 footer and pedal to the metal. Watch that log book, used to run double books, but they don't like that too much. Heck They have automatic transmissions. It just wouldn't feel right. Love the feel of that stick.
Really Good Luck--don't know where you are now--you know my email address, keep in touch
They got me up there with 5 years trucking--heck--got my ticket in 1976--#### computer gadgits
I just found the correction lever--that's better

Hey Bill! Glad to see you found this forum! This is the most interesting and informative place online when it comes to trucking. A lot of experienced people here who know. I have pretty much gotten all the good and bad that lies ahead - everything else I will have to learn myself from experience.
I am leaving (and this is to all) tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 1:20 pm on a JetBlue flight to Salt Lake City. From the airport, they pick me up in a shuttle to take me to the barracks where I will be staying.
I guess after getting settled in, I am meeting up with a lady I met in political chat who lives in SLC and wants to take me out for coffee. I guess I'll do that Sat night and Sunday I'll walk around and familiarize myself with the immediate area. Where the coffee is, the grocery store, stuff like that. Relax and take it all in - and go back to my lodging area in the early evening because this Sunday is going to be the ONLY day of that kind of freedom. Once classes start monday morning, it's not going to be 'vacation' in Salt Lake City. It's going to be truck driver training school - that's what I will be there for.
Well, I can't help but to be a LITTLE nervous - but I guess that comes with the territory. Although I have a feeling once I get to my lodging, unpack, meet the other guys, and go out for a little fresh air and relaxation in the day and a half I'll have before classes begin, I'll be OK...
Tomorrow my mom is buying a cake and some people are coming by for a little going away thing. My sister got me a gift, too. An i-pod nano for my travels. Never had one of those before. I love it. Can download all my music to it. It'll be good for the plane ride and for those sleepless nights laying in a strange bed. Put on those headphones and close my eyes and listen to all my favorites from Johnny Cash, Skynyrd, Floyd, John Denver, CCR, Bob Dylan, and well, you know all the songs I like LOL
