Does anyone have information on New Mexico oilfield companies? I am in school currently (passed all tests so I will have all endorsements when I get my CDL) and would like to line up an oilfield job before or soon after graduating. I am mostly interested in the Hobbs/Carlsbad area as it is closer to where I live. However, I would consider Farmington.

My home is in central New Mexico so Farmington and Carlsbad are about the same distance. There seems to be a lot more going on in the SE part of NM so I haven't even considered the San Juan Basin. All the major players seem to be in the Hobbs/Carlsbad area-Nabors, Key, Basic, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Stallion, just to name a few.

The costs to produce oil in the Farmington area is more expensive, therefore the companies are not focused in that area as much as the Carlsbad area. Does anyone know if Carlsbad is a safe area to live, seems pricey to live there.

Carlsbad is a nice little town. It's pricey because there's an oil boom ..... welcome to the Permian Basin. I've heard Hobbs is a little seedier, some call it "Little Albequerque", but there's a lot of work around there from what I hear.

Spent three days there in September. Was all around Carlsbad and had no problems at all. Like any town, it had a seedy side but I agree, seemed like a nice little town. The park along the river made for a nice stroll, downtown was pretty cool too. Try the Red Chimney BBQ, not too shabby or expensive for a decent dinner. Struck me odd though, the town is nearly shutdown on Sundays. Bible belt maybe? 285 through town is crazy busy with water trucks, mud trucks, etc.

Hobbs is the armpit of NM. Dusty and windy in thefall winter and spring and dusty in the summer. Never did like it and I don't think they even have a LOTA BURGER, just a couple Mexican Restaurants and you need to learn Spanish if you can't speak it already.

Hobbs is quiet right now, just left there last week, you would do better further south in Texas in my opinion,,, Good luck.

Hobbs is a rough lil town for night life. Lots of work though. I wouldn't mind working around buckeye again. Nice lil store that closes early.

Btw...........Jal is the real armpit of NM.

Like brycey said-Hobbs did seem a little slower last time I was there-it almost looked like there was more going on in Carlsbad-what's up with that?
