I've always adjusted my own brakes. With the introduction of auto adjusters tho I don't do it near as much as I used to. I've got quite a few old trailers with manual slacks and I crawl under those trailers ever time I hook on to them and usually once during my trip depending on how far I'm going. I actually prefer the manual slacks just because I can adjust them whereas your not supposed to adjust autos when they are out of adjustment there is a definite problem.

I'm not going to measure the stroke. I will do as is recommended here http://www.idealease-abetterway.com/safetycompliance/04_22_2011.pdf when I get under a new trailer for safe measure. And if the brakes don't feel quite right under load, I'll look into it further. I know how to adjust brakes, but I don't adjust auto's other then the "auto procedure" mentioned if there still seems to be an issue, then I call our service manager and see what he wants to do. Our equipment (trailers) goes over an inspection bay about every 10-15k miles on average and they do a good job keeping the brakes in line.

Irregardless of whether a company wishes it or not, I myself wouldn't drive a truck without knowing how to inspect & adjust brakes, plus a whole lot more.
That's just scratching the surface, so to speak.Last edited: Oct 27, 2013

TwinStickPeterbilt, Raiderfanatic and puncher Thank this. -
Regardless of whether or not a message board wishes it, I myself wouldn't write a post without knowing the English language, plus a whole lot more. Not using made up words like "irregardless" is just scratching the surface, so to speak.

I'm a truck driver. I could care less if you're an English major from wherever. If you care to scan this message board I'm sure you can keep yourself quite busy.
My "English" is typically fine, tho infrequently a mistake slips by. Are you perfect in all aspects? I already know the answer, so don't bother.
Now what do you know about the topic, so you don't have to do 2 things that the message board does not wish.
BTW, I suggest you take a look at this Dictionary.com link: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/irregardless?s=t&path=/
And while you first drew attention to the subject of perfection, after I reviewed just 6 of your posts...
there were several errors to be found. <Cough, cough> But your sig sure is appropriate.Last edited: Oct 27, 2013
