Glad it worked out for ya. There seems to be a good bit more to all this big riggin' than say driving somebodies forklift on a private lot.

Thanks 25(2)+2, and many more to ya. About what is the service life of your most common componant failure, beside the operator?

You realize spring brakes have been around since 1976 right? By my calculations that's almost 40 years...I don't think they're new. You say shut it down. I say park it on the side of the road give me a pair of vise grips, a wrench, and enough time for the truck to build up air and I'll be back on the road in about 10 minutes. I don't believe in calling road service unless my truck has completely #### out. Otherwise my ### is limping somewhere. First time you have to pay some 2 bit moron from T/A whatever the ridiculous amount they charge per mile, plus a half hour labor for a 2 minute job, and he doesn't even fix the truck you learn to start limping someplace respectable. In a matter of less than an hour I had a $250 bill and a truck that still wasn't fixed. This is exactly why I learned how to fix things good enough to get me home or at least to a shop.

There is no way of knowing, I have had maybe 2 failures like this in years of driving, and even a new chamber or tire or other component can be faulty.

Lights will be the most common failure, unless super long life bulbs, then he wiring can go bad. The standard headlight bulbs have a longer life rating than the brighter replacements.

Our shop replaces brake chambers for weak spring brakes, because air slide tandems have the brakes applied only with spring brakes when the pins are unlocked, pushing in the supply(red) knob is supposed to reset the pins preventing the tandems from sliding. It's a safety issue.

HAD THAT happen in denver. just as i got out of the mountains. the leak sounded like it was coming from a valve underneath the cab. turned out to be a chamber.

Well now, safety and regulations being two different items, regulated safety doesnt' seem to me a bad thing, an like ya say reset the pin is exactly how it was taught in class this week, dont' forget to check for hobos in the wheels.
(edit post) i'm still coupling with my class, when we get learned to slide tandems, i'm a try an member this, seems like it all fits together right nice like.:biggrin_25519:
