So I like the mpg of the peterbilt 372 aero cab over from the late 80s / early 90s..but don't like the looks too much. I have seen an older freightliner with the same engine, the L-10. I'm not sure if it got good mpg like the Pete because the Pete was aerodynamically designed..but the freight sure looked better..dos anyone have any info on this engine in other trucks?
Cummins L 10 engine question???????????

We had a bunch of L10 in 86 freightliners . For our job they could not be beat, but we were light. Greensboro, NC to Jacksonville FL and back. 54k gross max. But 10plus mpg, aero as a brick! Change out the head before 750k . After having a couple of heads crack at the valve train pedestals ( dropping valves) we learned . Slap on a new head and go.
But these are not powerful motors . OTR may be to much for them. -
L-10 is made in China now, for industrial application. some truckers install L9/10 in old trucks to remove all f-n electronics, but they clame engine is really gutless
GeorgeDee Thanks this. -
i have heard about them being gutless...thats ok with me..its like a honda 4 cylinder...efficient but weak..and still serves a purpose

If 60,000 lbs and under, it is fine. Just as you know, there no ball of fire.

I am not trying to hate on the truck you posted, its ok. What I want to add in is what will the REAL cost of making that truck road legal? Then get it over the boarder. How about getting it delivered on a lowboy? Now I know of another beautiful truck we have for sale here on this board, http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...eds-and-trading-post/228752-1994-cabover.html . Now before you get all shocked with the price, This is one you can get temporary plates and drive it home with confidence. Not mine, just one I saw here. Just from the appearance, the green one does not look like it has been taken care of well. Just be sure you want to put the money into the green one, that it will need. Good luck.GeorgeDee Thanks this.
