When in the world did Channel 19 become the "skip" channel.

I have been back into radios now for a couple of years. 25 years ago when I was spending a lot of time on the road (3-4K per week), CH 19 was for "truckers" and all the skip shooters used different channels.

Now I know everything has changed and I have read all the posts on here about how no one even runs a radio any more.

BUT GEEEEZZZZ, I just made a quick turn around trip from Arkansas to LA, Cali and back and not ONE bear or traffic or hazard report !! The few drivers that are even running radios have to keep the squelch up so high to keep out the Massachusetts and east coast loud mouths out that it probably isn't worth it to them.

I know I am barking up a dead tree, I guess I miss the good 'ol days of trying to help out each other while on the road.

I'll get off the soap box.......................

I've been wondering the same thing. 39 other channels and these guys are all over 19.

As of recent, 10 and 11 meters has been wide open. When wide open, it seems usually every CB channel has skip on it. Most times when I tune in 19 during high skywave propagation, the channel sounds like a blur of heterodyne words from all the truck drivers talking...worse than the skip shooting sidebanders on 38 LSB. Did you hear someone on 19 calling out something like "Triple 5 in the sandpile just got down/standing by"?

I run in SC, NC, TN, GA, and AL, I hear the same CB shop advertising no matter what state I'm in about being at exit 140A, and then there is some woman talking about cleaning out trucks and says something like "take to KK on 19" This crap is getting old to say the least.

Years ago WalMart and ABF went to 26.735(at least in and around AR)......but now most of them don't run a radio or talk much anymore either.

I heard the "triple 5" guy.

I knew ABF used a different ch, but didn't know which one.

At least I'm not the only one, Like Joetro said, 39 other channels...............

That would be exit 140 on I-40 Oklahoma City, OK. You can hear them all over the east coast. She will answer if you call her.
