Walked out on Prime's orientation

I am just telling you how I would do things if it were me. If you have a problem with that I'll quote Bobby Knight here "When I'm dead and gone I hope they bury me upside down so my critics can kiss my #####."

 

As long as he hadn't lied about something in his background or showed up with a hot drug test, your assertion is bunk. Failing to meet the qualifications through no fault of the OPs own volition only means Prime would say no thanks, and provide him with a bus ticket home and a ride to the station.

 

So everytime you attend orientation you're going to leave?You wasn't there but what a day and you already know you didn't like Prime?What about if you do start training,you going to quit then too because you and trainer didn't get along?You must have a lot of money saved up for transportation back home.I suggest you stick to jobs in your area,sounds like trucking isn't for you.

 

Lord knows there's been a time or three I've kicked myself for not bailing on a bad situation early (like my first marriage... ) ...

IMHO the OP ultimately did the correct thing once he had an up close and personal experience in orientation. Recruiters blow smoke up hiney's all the time. He noted that he had bad vibes after talking with trainers and other folks within the company organization, so he made the decision to leave and got out of Dodge. That's fine in my book.

He also sought council on this forum and followed up to make sure he wasn't reported on the DAC and will monitor that situation. That is a good thing.

Ultimately a lesson that anyone can take away from his situation is that before you commit your time to go to a company orientation it is best if you have a chance to go to the local terminal where you would be based and ask to meet and greet, maybe look at the equipment they run as well. That's what I did, and in my case I came away with a positive impression. I met with the local recruiter, saw the dispatch operation, toured the driver's lounge and talk with some of the truckers and trainers, met with the guy that would run orientation, and even got a chance to get a look through a truck waiting for assignment.

One thing that local recruiter told me is that about half of all people that come to orientation will not finish. Some leave of their own accord and some are disqualified.

 

If you are that short tempered,,,we don't need you on the road behind the wheel of 80,000 lbs of truck.

 

Perhaps the same can be said about your inability to make rational decisions.

Like it has been said.....you are an "at will" employee....at orientation , I'm thinking you aren't employed.....To the Op....your 1st post led most of us to believe that you were scared of the drug testing...since you decided to leave right before it began...but in all honesty....letting the folks at PRIME know just why you aren't interested in driving for them IS the right thing to do. It has nothing to do with being a man , just has everything to do with being considerate and acting like an adult....also had you done just that very thing , you needn't /wouldn't be worried about a bad report to your DAC. Actions have consequences.....your actions here may come back to haunt you....this is not about anyone's view of the world...it's about being held accountable for your actions. Personal responsibilty goes a long way with folks...you owe everyone the same respect/dignity that you expect them to give you.....it's called being a grown-up.
