oh, they are certainy coming. Just a question of when. Had a "safety" meeting back in Sept. We we really had was a guy tell us some incredibly long personal stories that helped me to forget some of the valuable info we are already given during orientation and quarterly sustainment training.
But the camera thing was one little tidbit that was mentioned between stories. Not IF but WHEN. -
I hope I can get out of trucking altogether. I truly don't mind a dashcam but I will literally never drive with a camera facing me. But it will be just like elogs. Eventually they will be everywhere. You just can't hide.

Going Owner/Operator may be the end run here, but perhaps even those drivers will have to "deal" with the [eye in the cab] at some point... probably.
There are many fields of works where this is commonplace without employees giving it a second thought. I wonder what it is about driving that presents such strong opinions... specifically. The only period I might accept it is while driving, but even this seems frought with potential problems.
It's difficult to get around never... not, that I'd be inclined to do so either. -
Because with driving we are sitting in the same position for hours on end. Having someone be able to look in and judge is too much. I cant imagine working that way. I mean heck, we already live away from home, struggle to eat healthy meals, dont get to relax on the couch and watch t.v, dont get to cuddle momma every night and now on top of all that they want to watch us.
I am a trucker because of the freedom. Not having a boss looking over your shoulder is about the only benefit to this job. Its a huge plus and soon I fear it will be gone. Sad really. Sadder still is that drivers will just accept it.GoldenLad Thanks this. -
for my first few weeks I didn't have a bunk heater, they had to retrofit a fuel tank and somebody screwed it up removing the heater
i'm not trying to complain, but when the temperature drops 20 degrees overnight and it was only 52 in the truck to begin with..... -
they have 14,000 trucks, they aren't going to by 14,000 APU's
also it adds 400lbs of weight -
hotel night!! Thanks DBL!! Really, you're too kind.

Well said, I could not have wrote it better. A dash cam would be okay to me. But a camera on me? No way, no how! The truck issued to me is really my home. I only go see my family once or twice a month for a couple days. It would be no different than a landlord installing a camera in the house of their tennet's living room. It's just flat out an invasion of privacy.

Not very accurate, you pay to lease or rent from landLord. The tractor belongs to the company and are paying you to drive it. If it's going to cost them money because you were texting or not they have it recorded. No different then a cashier who has a camera pointed at her drawer. Owners are proactive. Now if your a lease driver that would b same as a apartment
