That's a good post and kinda how I feel at times. In town in the City traffic can be a kaotic at times. Statistics show some monthes are worse than others and I would haft to say things are pretty bad right now.
Any how the best way to get around in city highways is by not hitting traffic. 57-59 in 55mph. zone is pretty resonable considering the possibilities of cops, bad drivers, conjestionand, road work, ect.
I mean if you want to get they're early leave 15 20 minuts early. All that wish wash in an out of the lanes bull gets old.
And it doesn't really get you they're any faster.
Some would say 11 years exp. And a million miles don't mean ####. I'd say they need to take they're head out of they're ###. Couse all that's crap in they're head is affecting what they say. And they're full of it.
Along with my commercial driving experience I,ve had years of local driving here in Los Angeles, I would say it's nothing like open road and somthing you haft to adjust to. Key thing is preserving your driving privledge and the safty of the general public as well as your self through professional ambithions and hard work.
Anyhow nice post.
Why you shouldn't pass in lane two of four in California

I have been doing a lot of driving around LA area, been hauling trailers to Sylmar, Baldwin Park and Vernon for the past couple weeks daily. I have learnt the times to drive and the times to avoid the traffic. Since im hauling mt's for a UPS lease I can make my own hours and I do for the most part, I try to leave in the morning so when I hit LA area the traffic isnt too bad and I can get back out before its bad. I know if im dropping a trailer at 1600 then I will be hitting some bad traffic getting back out so I try to make sure im in Vernon and dropped by 1400 and then hit that I5 out of there. Normally im going from Adelanto to those places but right now im going back and forth to Dinuba, I miss Sylmar since I could take the 14 and save a ton of pain in traffic.

Yep every body nows you haft get in an out of there between 10 and 2 or get in before 6 and leave around 9 or so.. It could mean the diferance of 3-5 hours depending on how bad it gets.
But check it out. It's never bad enough to risk getting into an accident, a ticket or the safty of others. Some times the loads just going haft to be late.
Companies won't give you a service failure every time if they do your working for the wrong people. And once you get a few tickets and a couple of accidents, nobody will want to hire you.Last edited: Nov 6, 2013

whenever i have an appointment around 9am in LA area i always leave early and add time

Use to haul into LA area in a 120 foot truck. Would wait outside till 10pm then hammer down to the drop point. Deliver in the AM and suck up the truck and get the hell out of Dodge.

Yep that's how it is. If you can't make with in the time gaps were you can get pass the traffic, then you just haft to deal with the traffic, or like in your case just wait until traffic clears.
Oh by the way Oregon is just the Northern Providence of California. The name for that land mise well be called Caligornia.Last edited: Nov 7, 2013
okiedokie Thanks this. -
Why move over for a cop shooting radar? He's clearly off the road, perpendicular to the road actually. You state you moved over because " you knew CHP was sitting there" but I just see you obstructing traffic for no reason than possibly ignorance of the "move over for EMERGENCY vehicles" law.
-
Interesting perspective.
I "almost" passed a rest area being used for inspections cause I saw several police lights on up ahead on the right shoulder, so I naturally moved over. They setup signs about truck inspection, but it was vague and I was obviously distracted about having to move over due to flashing lights up ahead.
Its just a natural reaction when you see emergency or police on side of the road to move over. Never know if officer is going to step out, or pull out quickly without warning. That and trucks merging from the entrance ramp, its just natural to move over without giving it much thought.KW Cajun, blairandgretchen, Logan76 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I could understand if his lights were on at the time, and who knows how fast that tanker was coming up on him when he stepped over into that lane (I'm guessing that's where the tanker was, before he merged in front of him). I understand courtesy of moving over for merging vehicles but in the same breath they do have the yield sign.
I understand the upside down triangle is a long forgotten sign and most people refuse to yield anymore but i get cut off quite regularly by vehicles moving over to let people on the highway, and there has to be a line drawn to the point where you make merging traffic yield.
Not pointing fingers but just opening minds to some other possibilities in this scenario. -
Like a four wheeler you can't understand they get pissed for the same reason.
I'dsay you'll never get it. Not anytime soon anyways.Last edited: Nov 7, 2013
