The other day I was pouring oil into my truck and after dumping in it all the required oil.. I opened the top of one of the buckets which I usually use to store tools etc.. when I got it open I finished pouring some left over oil into the other bucket cus I only needed 1. Then to please my curiosity I held it up so that the sun would cone inside the bucket and light up the bottom of it and to my surprise.. I could see a lot of metal particles running down the bottom.
Now I dont know if this is normal but I am worried.. theres no chance those metals got in there by accident. My only idea is that its recycled oil?
The oil was mobil delvac 15w40 bought from a large supplier in miami
So as curiosity grew bigger I of course had to open another brand of oil.. rotella 15w40 and for starters the smell of the oil itself was different which is leading me to think delvac was recycled. But to my surprise there were QUITE LESS but still I could see tinier metal particles in the botton of the bucket.
Im not pointing fingers its just that the used oil I take out of my engine is the one supposed to have metal particles. Not the one I puting in..
To all those curiosity cats open your buckets, hold em up and post?
The rotella was bought in a local tractor supply co
The delvac comes in train tankers then they fill up tanks and down to quarts.

No! No metal in new oil. I would drain it rite away and buy oil else where!
-
Send in a sample of the brand new oil in question and see what comes up.
-
I actually have an unused amsoil oil sample kit. Maybe I send it back and post all the details but its not like im gonna run back there and ask for my money back, im just never buying from them or delvac brand again. Id rather pay the extra bucks and get my oil even from walmart.. Miami isnt the best place to buy anything a cheap version could be made of...

Curious to see what the analysis shows.
I take it the original container was 5 gal metal cans/buckets, correct? Any visible (small) defects on the bucket's interior, especially on the seam?
Very curious if the particles are attracted to a magnet, and also the color of them (silver, bronze, copper colored)?
I would probably get a good close-up camera and try to macro-photo a sample of them also.
No telling what amount went into the engine, from what you're indicating. -
Plastic buckets, silver in color and some were as big as rice but really thin like it chipped off of something. Now I wonder if its just one bucket. I bought 10 for myself and 10 for my dad, guess I'll just have to see.
KW Cajun Thanks this. -
Drain it ASAP and change oil filter, I would cut filter open and inspect also.
-
So these are not the black buckets with mobile delvac on them? Did they have a security seal of any kind on them? where exactly are you getting them and how much are you paying?
-
Whoa, I thought you meant metal "particles", as in hundreds/thousands of tiny specks (like in metallic paint).
If some were the size of rice grains... those are huge size.
I don't know if you even started the engine since, but I definitely would NOT, until much more info can be found out. -
Yeah its too late now been running it with that oil for a couple of months. Maybe it was just that one bucket that was contaminated maybe.. I hope. oh well this is a small 11.1 350 hp detroit with 700k+ miles after rebuild, no major breakdowns.. ive been thinking of rebuilding it already maybe this speeds things up lol? It sucks but o well better laugh it off than cry about it. If theres damage done its done
