Its easy enough to find a ton of videos on youtube about reefers and dry vans trying to get into a dock that was [a] not designed for 53' trailers or just horrible in every other way conceivable , but I have not found a lot of horror tales about flatbed deliveries . Since FB loads from the side or from crane [ often inside locations ? ] I would think its easier to p/u and deliver a fb load than reefer/dry van .
Do they exist , or do flatbed drivers have an easier time with delivery locations .
I have read somewhere that pick up and deliver times are little better with fb as opposed to reefer , is this true ?

Difficult backing with flatbedding ?

You back more than you think, one thing is most flats are 48' and that five feet makes a difference.
fld and Skunk_Truck_2590 Thank this. -
Go to Tamko in Frederick, MD. The docks were made for 96" trailers, the dock is about 101" wide. Schedules are different. I am back to running van and reefer again and some reefer places take forever, but so does the Claymont, DE steel plant.

Flatbed is much better in my opinion, than van or reefer.
Quick load/unload, customer glad to see you vs. grocery warehouses where they treat you like a terrorist and mortal enemy.
If you're just starting your career, look real closely at flatbed or tanker.TwinStickPeterbilt, NHL_fan, stupidnerd and 5 others Thank this. -
Just don't get flustered trying to back a spread axle. It takes a little time to understand them. Once you try you'll understand.

Most flatbedders can't back up too good
-
I take a little offence on that remark. I can back my spread axle better than most non spread axle drivers out there. IE: wife ask if I'm watching TV when I'm down at a truck stop. Me :No the best show is watching drivers trying to park thier rigs in parking spots. It is halarious some times.blairandgretchen, sbv, DLC and 3 others Thank this.

my comment was made in jest. No need to get offended. I see plenty of flatbedders get it in the tight spots in truckstops just as well as the van drivers, with the possible exception of TMC.

How can you just flat out say MOST flatbedders can't back up good? Have you ever try to back up a spread axle with 46K on it on 90 degree into a building with sun blare in your eyes and you can't see nothing inside the building? or try to navigate through construction sites in any major city than back up from a busy street into tiny opening in a fence? You can't just say that because most flatbed drivers don't have to back in to dock like van or reefer drivers do...Schism, bitshifter, TwinStickPeterbilt and 5 others Thank this.
