So, I came up with a solution that works for the Galaxy.
3M Dual-Lock. Same stuff that holds EZPass tags on. There's enough of it there to hold a good 35lbs... it's bloody solid, and I'm happy.
What does it mean... (SWR issues content)

I don't have any experience with that stuff, but I'd put at least one small bolt thru it just for piece of mind.
-
How do you like the 939? I'm looking at getting one of those.
-
You can be the best judge of that, but there's no way I would run it mounted overhead with just the 3M Dual-Lock.
Even tho the CB is maybe 4~5 lbs, the inertia when you hit some good bumps, combined with constant mild vibration/jarring, will most likely allow it to break free at the most inopportune time. Personally, I'd have a bolt backup.
I've had my I-Pass break loose (1/2" x 2" dual lock strip), and that was light & side-mounted. JMO -
The problem is the sticky back. It doesn't adhere to the plastic very well. When I use that tape I put a small amount of epoxy on it and let that cure for 24 hrs.

I had it mounted this way in my car for almost two years... I had just forgotten about it. Remembered when I was looking for something and came across the mounting bracket which still had the dual-lock on it. My car rides rougher than this truck, by a long shot...and it managed to stay put in the car. In fact, the plastic clips for the under-dash panel it was mounted to finally gave out after about a year....but the dual-lock never came undone. I replaced them and it kept on holding until I took it out back in October to put it in the old truck.

Things will get interesting if the adhesive backed tape loses it's adhesion......
-
It won't. It's not just any adhesive, it's a thick acrylic adhesive that adheres very well to textured plastics. It's #### near impossible to remove from a textured surface, and to remove it from a smooth surface requires a razor blade.

Just to be safe, pick up a hockey helmet with face guard..Funny how somethin so solid will break free when you hit the brakes cause of a stupid 4wheeler and it breaks windshield and or radio....
The adheasive might hold but what about the velcro itself????
I can almost see it now you tryin to explain to the new company why you got fired from old company..
Well sir i didnt wanna spend the extra $ on a bolt, washer and nut..So i super glued my radio to my trk and when i slowed down for the lot lizzard my radio went flyin.....lololol..
Just razzin ya...hahahahahahah -
Radio Shack sells some loop-lock type tape thats very strong like that, I have used it to stick watt meters to the top of radios before to hold them in place instead of trying to figure out a way to bolt them down, and you need a pry-bar practically to pry the stuff apart or get it un-stuck once you stick it on.
It's probably 100 times stronger than velcro...However I would have reservations about mounting a radio to the roof like that, simply because around here in the Summer it can get up to over 150 degrees inside the cab when parked out in the Texas Sun...Heat and glue does not mix very well...
