Some say not much of a difference, they are totally different. A 9 has 8 gears plus a granny that isn't used much. A 10 has 10 gears you actually use. The shift pattern is different too. The big difference is a 9 uses the clasic h patern while a 10 has the extra leg. Shifting from 5 to 6th is weird because your shirting from a bottom gear to a bottom gear and you make an upside down u with the shifter. Unless ofcourse your talking about a supper 10 which is a whole different trans. when going from a 9 to a 10 you will constantly miss 6 gear and you may try to start in second insted of 1st. Coming form a car a 10 is real annoying becuase the 1st gear position in a car is always up and in the 10 is down.

    9 speed:

    (Range down)
    R 1 3
    L 2 4

    (Range up)
    R 5 7
    X 6 8

    10 Speed:

    (Range down)
    R 2 4
    1 3 5

    (Range up)
    R 7 9
    6 8 10

I really ain't sure to be honest. I think it will do that but I don't have it on paper. In 2009 an Arkansas trooper got me on radar at 108 at the 69 mile marker north bound on 67. Only reason he didn't take me to Jackson county cross bar hotel was a loaded pott trailer. It wasn't flat out then, and since then I rebuilt the old B to really come on after I became its owner not just part time driver. 562.00 dollars is what ticket cost showed up on MVR as 20 over speeding. Yes it hurt glad its off my record.

In a 9 speed I prefer it to be a 'backwards' 9. High gear is against the dash and 8 is where high normally is

Ahh the 13 double over. I have asked 3 mechanics and the transmission rebuild shop in Toronto (Domar) what a double over is and none of them have ever heard of it. I run a 13 OD behind a 370/400 M11 Cummins with a 4.33 rear gear. I really need another OD gear for betterr fuel mileage when I'm empty but the transmission guy said no such thing. So where do I find one?

Everyone curses the super 10 its not that bad. The problem is everyone wants to shift them the same way with just the button. The best way is in the higher gears (7-8 9-10) is to move the shifter on each shift. Hit the button slide into neutral back into the same hole and it will shift smooth as glass and fast!
But saying that I would never order a truck with a super 10.

Going to have to search the junkyards and scrap piles. Don't think Eaton has built an RTOO double over 13 speed since the first Reagan Administration, lol.

He asked what was the difference, how is that captain obvious, The shift pattern is the biggest difference. As far as top gear, depending on model its similar.
