Whats the leasing program really like with Trans Am!!?? I wanna hear from the drivers not just the personal
-
the leasing program is 100% like what the people who lease with trans am have been describing in this thread. unless u are a student, new to trucking and dont know any better then yes trans am is for you. if u have been out of work for an extensive period of time and just want to get some money, yes trans am is for you. if u understand the trucking industry and more importantly understand the position you play on the team..ie driver, dispatcher(dm), planner, sales etc then u will see that trans am is a starter company. there is a reason that the driver turn over rate is high at this company. where theres smoke theres fire. if u can make it work with trans am, then more power to you. life is too short and tomorrow isnt promised to anyone, to have to put up with the aggravation that trans am will bestow upon you. and yes i know about other companies, been driving since 1993 otr and local. and i blame myself for not doing the proper homework and not reading and comprehending what was posted in this thread before i came here in june 2013. sometimes u just gotta see for yourself......good luck to you mcclain2981 and any other person who is joining the trans am dysfunctional family...

OK, TransAm lease holders, I need your input. Why would I want a 6-month lease? Is it really a company loss-leader - give you many loads and lots of miles for 6 months as a 'carrot," then jerk the carrot away as a "we gotcha now!" response? Or is it a for-real deal designed to see if I like L/O or not?
Help me understand. I'm trying to make an important decision for three VERY important reasons (aged 6 years, 18 months, and 9 months) and TransAm offers a lot in one area--where they live! Share your wisdom and collective knowledge. Help a driver out!
For anyone else who reads this, I already know all the bad news stories about the company and all the 'flease operation' horrors in general, so regurgitating them here to try to convince me of my insanity won't help; I already know I'm insane!Last edited: Nov 20, 2013

If you go into a lease and four months in, want to bail, you can tough it out the last two month then collect the completion bnus and run. Seems to me that unless youre hoping to buy out the truck at the end of a term lease, then its a lot better to keep doing 6month leases and just resign at the end. I'll tell ya though, hometime is not really for the L/O. I have a 3 and a 1 year old at home and barely get to see them. Im not complainng about it, I knew what I was getting in to.
I feel that the lease is doable, but it involves a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to chase the paycheck. You cant just sit and hope they give you miles, you have to chase the paycheck. It is worth it to some, and not to others. -
hey denalidad. i did the six month lease to see if i would like trans am. to see how the operation works, the running lanes, hometime, pay etc. they will give u load but if u have the hours why take a 700 mile run that delivers in 3 days? i have been refusing loads since day one in my truck for that reason. they always seem to have it figured out by time they send the third custom short over. the object of their game is to get the load cleared off their board, no matter who takes it..company or lease..object of your game as a lease operator is to manage your pockets. maybe someone would like the 700 mile 3 day run for various reasons. also in my case my driver manager decided to go on maternity leave so now i am dealing with 3-5 different people a day who dont seem to know how to read the messages sent from my truck. selfishly speaking..c'mon heather u had the baby already time to come back

For me, the plan is to have more control over my own life...turn down a load if I like, make that dental appointment I WON'T like, visit with the grandkids (and daughters, too, I guess!) and maybe even make some money. I've never wanted to become an O/O in the end, just have the benefits of being one. -
well I did 3 6 month leases
my avg pay never amounted to more then the company pay at $.30/mile
my last 6 month lease they kept my last 5700 miles for wear and tear on the equipment
a lease while costing around $600/month for the truck payment
in reality costs $1400 /week by the time your down with ins ,fuel, etc
if you view it as a stepping stone to move on you can survive
but if I had to do it again I would not
but Transam is not the worse co
they are a training starter company and that is all they are
take advantage and life will improve
I learned a lot here and moved on use the things I learned every day
they micromanage every detail
but now I can do it myself
driving for a man who says don't call after 5 or on weekends
figure it out yourselfDenaliDad Thanks this.
