Hey guys, just wondering if knight transportation is over the road (OTR). Are you gone for more than just a few days at a time or are you doing closer deliveries( a day or two).

Looks like Night only offers regional and part-time opportunities. If you have bills and need a pay check you should probably look at some other companies. http://www.driveknight.com/pc/index.html

Knight is over the road trucking. Yes they do have regional if you ask for it but if you want over the road they will gladly let you have over the road.
As for paying the bills? I am a regional driver and each week i average 3400 - 4200 miles per week. I am home almost every third day or every other weekend to do a 34 reset. My choice. Don't get me wrong, Knight is not a perfect company to drive for but far and few are. Overall Knight has treated this driver here good and i like it so far.Bisket Thanks this. -

Can you give details on the pros and cons of NE regional with Knight ? Its apparently the least appealing part of the country for trucking and I am very interested in the details as I am from Northern NH . The more info the better .

I've already called the guido on his mileage claims in another thread. Driving with e-logs in a governed truck 4200 miles is just not possible. If you don't log pretrip or any time at shipper/receiver, run every stop light, and have a police escort you might be able to in 70 hours but in real world conditions it is impossible. He's either an office puke tasked with damage control or a driver huckstering for recruitment bonuses.DGStrong71 Thanks this. -
Its become obvious that due to congestion in the smaller new england states , especially the prehistoric cities that mileage in the ' North East Region ' suffers a lot . Couple that with these states often containing much older facilities not designed to accommodate sleepers/53' and I can see why a large percentage of truckers wanting nothing to do with the place . New England is not the entirety of the NE zone , it seems companies vary a slight amount on whats considering NE and not all of the NE region is as bad as Boston,NYC , Newark .
That aside there are thousands of drivers up here and I would really like to determine if its worth attempting a dedicated/regional career or just get a cdl-a and do long haul otr .
There must be a reason other than home time truckers drive the North East regional/dedicated . I also think that hearing the pros and cons from North East truckers would be much more accurate than getting the candy coated dribble from company recruiters . -

I drove for Knight Refrigerated about six months. My opinion is... Keep your mouth shut, And you might get some miles. If you have problems forget it. Each terminal is ran like its own trucking company. Equipment is ok. Sliding pay scale really screws the driver though. Refer side is good long runs. I did Good Humor ice cream. Mostly from Hagerstown Md to Henderson Nv. More miles....less money. If your truck needs a service go to your own terminal. Your the enemy of the state at someone elses. Don't know much about dry side. Trucks run 65. They are really touchy on the idle policy. If your fat like me your dm will be on you everyday in the summer time. But the final thing is the pay isnt good enough. If you have no family you can survive at Knight. If you have children I would recommend you look elsewhere.
