Based on the little bit of info we have I don't see this being a good idea unless he can get a local job.
A lot of new drivers don't get home often and when they do it's only long enough to do the laundry, get some sleep and stock up on supplies. Doing things that need to be done around the house are out of the question. Also, income can be pretty low at the start. When you consider the costs of living on the road there is often very little money left over. Also, a very large number of new drivers don't make it through the first year and the whole trucking experience just turns into an expensive lesson for them.
If trucking is being thought of as a solution to a bad situation it probably isn't. If it's something he really wants to do then it might work.
Starting out in trucking can be a very tough experience. Being the one at home taking care of everything can be way tougher.
Think this one through carefully.

What most won't do to get in this career.I know because when I first started driving I did'nt care what the pay was.My goal was to get the exp.Now days drivers are practically driving for free.I blame a lot of it on our sinken economy. If and/or when it gets better, companies will still take advantage of the drivers and keep them at poverty level.
