hood mount crack?

Is it cracked or is there just a piece out of the bottom, can't tell from the pic.

Get it fixed fast and stop opening the hood. The next step is it will break thru the front and cost more. I know first hand. Cost me $600 bucks to get both sides fixed and paint done.

 

There is no quick fix for it that will last. The most we get out of repairing that type of failure is about a year. The only way we have successfully fixed them to last is either replace that entire section of the hood or purchase a new hood. Both options are costly.

 

I had this problem on both my trucks.. wasnt expensive to fix..

get somebody to weld you 3 metal plates so they look like a corner of a cube..
you will have to put this "corner" between the metal mount and the fiberglass of your hood

First I took of the hood on the ground because its to heavy to do it while mounted on the truck.. you dont want to destroy other good mount,
there is metal plate inside the fiberglass frame in the hood, in L shape as far as I remember
make sure you drill few holes to screw on the "corner" to the inner piece of metal ..
"corner" and inner metal piece have to be connected really strong - I used rivets
and you need that L piece to be still inside the hood because it has treads for mounting screws
you will also need to cut exact holes in the "corner" for mounting screws

I had it for over a year and no problems whatsoever.. just be gentle while opening the hood and it should hold for quite a while

you might have to adjust hood locks, depends how thick metals your planning on youing.. the thicker the better

I went to get an estimate at shop today for this same problem. Only the drive side support has collapsed. The metal plate does not break though the outer shell of the hood yet so only the inside frame need to be replaced. The cost is 1300 plus tax for ungluing the inside supporting frame surrounding the radiator opening inside the hood and glue a new frame with the new hinge supports. I think I am going for another cheaper solution instead.

 

new hood is $2700 at my dealership, aftermarket is even cheaper..

 

I didn't ask them how much a new hood will be yesterday. But i am pretty sure the oem hood is black color. So it will be at least 3000 with new paint, labor and tax if the body shop buy back the old damaged hood. Btw, the estimate of 1300 was from ubc at Jefferson st.

I am now planning to pump some rigid insulation foam into the void of frame to help stop the metal plate from collapsing further inward. I like touch n foam landscape foam after reading the review at amazon and I will trying it when the weather get a little bit warmer. It seems to be the cheapest possible solution. Don't seem like I have much to lose trying this.
